Bridemaids Dresses

Ok, so I am going to be going to the first dress fitting with some of my girls on the 26th. But I have a question, and I don't want to look like an idiot there...so please girls, if you could help me out. The style dress that I fell in LOVE with has a small train. I would rather just have the train completely off... to make it a complete cricle, so they don't need to worry about it during the RH. I know they will be charged an arm and a leg to get it bustled and if their kids height changes alot it will cost wwaaayy too much money. Do you think that I can ask them when ordering to chop the train off just so it'll be easier in the long run..?? I know it's an odd request...and I do loove the train, but I figured out that it will just be waaay to much for them... Any help?? I cant ever post pics, so the dress is in my pics folder... :) TIA!!!

its not an odd request, it's standard. i went to 3 of my BMs fittings and we were asked if they wanted to keep the train or do an even hem. We told them to do an even hem -- my dress doesn't have a giant train, and I didn't want them to worry about bustles. It was much easier and it cost the same price as a regular hem.

you can have them do anything, im also having the straps on our BM dresses made removeable bc i hate them, always have and always will! my sis who wanted straps agrees it looks better strapless, and can put the straps on for the reception if she feels like her dress is falling down

we also had the train cut off our BM dresses ... and had the straps removable.

i kept the extra material for the florist to wrap the stems of the bouquets

OP, were you talking about having the train renoved by the manufacturer, so that it wouldn't have to be removed at the alteration process? If so, yes, many manufacturers will do a custom nip and tuck like that. It could also be removed once the dresses arrive (with train) at the alterations stage, but you'll be charged for it.

I was just going to say the same thing... I have heard that sometimes it is more expensive to have it removed (during the alterations stage) and in some cases was just cheaper to get it bustled. Im sure it all depends on the bridal salon. Doesnt hurt to ask! Let us know how it goes!

unless the dress manufacturer will do it for free, i'd say have them do it as alterations. my girls werent charged any more than a regular hem, and unless you are getting a measured length (which i would avoid, if possible) they will be paying again if they need any sort of hem.
