I am kind of bummed that I am seeing my FH before our ceremony for pictures. I bought a second dress because I wanted to keep some surprise of me coming down the aisle. But now I am thinking that I don't want to have all these pictures in my second dress, I don't love it nearly as much as my 'real' dress. I am torn between keeping the surprise and having pictures in a dress that I don't Love. What do I do????
What is everyone else doing who is in a similar situation?
Thanks!
P.S. Last night I had a dream, really a nightmare, that it was my wedding day and I forgot to send out the invitations! haha - just wanted to share that too.

Re: Brides getting married at RH -
Why not surprise him during the first look?
I have always viewed it that no matter when your FH first sees you, he'll be surprised.
I'm getting married at the RH, and we're doing pictures before hand. I plan on a first look and I'm glad - we're both outgoing people, but pretty personal about a lot of things. I feel a lot more comfortable being really emotional with FH alone, then in front of so many people - even if they are friends and family.
I also haven't been an active member of any church since I was at least 14, so the dream of the 'church aisle walk' isn't one of mine. I'm hoping to walk up behind him on an open garden pathway.

I am not seeing FH before the ceremony. The plan is to take pictures during the cocktail hour. Because of that we have extended our CH to an hour and a half. My photographer assured me that we wouldn't miss the whole CH. If you would like to do that you can speak to your RH to find out if that's an option.
Btw I had a dream like that a couple of months ago...lol!!

At first my fiancee wasn't interested in seeing me before, but after speaking with the photographer, in addition to the fact that he doesn't want to miss the cocktail hour. He agreed and we are going to do a reveal so the photographer will still get his initial reaction when he first sees me. We also plan on greeting all our guests at cocktails so we don't have to spend all the reception doing it and we can relax and have fun.... We will still do a few shots after the reception to get the dusk shots outside.

We're doing a first look so there's the element of surprise. I am looking forward to seeing him before the ceremony, I think it'll calm my nerves and allow me to process walking down the aisle lol.
this!

I totally get where you're coming from. We're having our ceremony at our RH too, and as of right now, our CH is only an hour. I don't really want to miss it, but I also didn't want to do a First Look and not have that moment as I come down the aisle.
We haven't made a definitive decision, but EVERY photographer we have spoken to (and it's been quite a few) has tried to talk us into a First Look. IF we do it, I'm trying these strategies to make myself feel better about it. Maybe one will apply to you.
*The way I will have to enter the ceremony is kind of L-shaped, so it feels weird to have that 'OMG, I see him/her' moment when I'm not actually walking directly towards him.
*We won't miss the CH, and (among other things) there will be some awesome food there.
*We'll have more time for photos, and can therefore be more creative, including varying location. (This is the biggie for me at the moment.)
*The First Look IS more intimate. Although it'll be caught on camera, you can ensure that otherwise it is just the two of you, if you'd like. Then you'll have an opportunity to talk to each other, hug, etc. If you see each other for the first time as you come down the aisle, you don't really have the chance to SHARE those first impressions with each other before the ceremony starts.
(I'll post if I come up with any other strategies that seem to help...)
We are doing the first look as well. My Rabbi had recommended it since we have to sign a katubah (Jewish wedding license) so we want to have those pictures taken together so we have those on camera and I am very shy emotionally and want to have some private moments alone with him before the ceremony it will help calm my nerves. LOL. It to me is the best way to go! You spend all this money for a few hours so why not enjoy it? I am!

We're doing a first look. I initially thought that I didn't want to see him before hand but then I realized, 'I'm paying for the CH, I'm eating at the CH!' haha Our time will be shortened too because of us signing the ketubah so our time will be all over the place. It was just easier to see him. I want pictures of his expression during the reveal too.

I was in the same place! We were torn between pictures or surprise. We decided not to see each other before the wedding because although we can get more pictures in that way it really wasn't what we wanted. We will not be in most of the cocktail hour but I'm ok with that. I really want my future husband to see me walk down the aisle when he see's me for the first time that day.

THIS! Seeing him beforehand was not an option for me and this was one of my few non-negotiables for wedding planning! I feel like it takes away from that whole moment IMO and I will never get that moment back. We are doing separate bridal party and fam pics beforehand, so during CH, group pics will be quick

We decided to do a reveal first. We definitely want to make it to as much of our CH as we can! So if most of us are showing up to our own CH's - do we still get formally announced when the reception begins? Or are you getting announced when you enter the CH?

We did the reveal and it was a special romantic moment and we were able to talk to each other right after. When it came to the actual walking down the aisle DH still felt surprised and emotional. There is still a different feeling and we even had a rehearsal right before the ceremony.

I will be seeing him before hand. There wil be a reveal, that's enough for me. I want to get my picture done and enjoy cocktail hour. I am paying for it and don't want to hear about all of the food,m

My FH and I were very torn on this also. We ended up going with seeing each other before the ceremony. Aside from missing CH, we feel like the wedding will fly by so quickly and we don't want to miss any part of it. We're going to try to do some creative first look pics. There was a thread somewhere on here before, but if you look on pintrest there are cute pics where the bride and groom are standing on opposite sides of an open door reading letters they wrote to each other. I still think coming down the aisle will be a special moment with all of your family and friends there.

Every wedding I went to where the bride and groom went to cocktail hour, they were still formally announced at the beginning of the reception.
