I booked my church on Friday and we decided to have the full mass for the ceremony, which is about a little under an hour long oppose to the regular marriage ceremony which is 20 mins long...
What did you choose? Full mass or the regular ceremony?

We're doing a full mass. It was important to my mom and grandma since it's a sacrament and it was important to me too since it really is the whole reason for the party afterward.

We just did the ceremony. It still ran about 30-40 minutes.

We're just doing a ceremony. FH's family is Episcopal, and half of my family has been divorced. So no one would be able to receive communion!

Re: Brides getting married in the Catholic Church...
We're doing the full Mass, especially since we're getting married on a Sunday. My family much prefers the full Mass and would be kinda upset if we didn't do it. Now that I'm hearing he time difference isn't even that big I'd prob just go with the full Mass regardless.

Re: Brides getting married in the Catholic Church...
We are doing a ceremony. People think a mass is somehow more religious, but the sacrament of marriage doesn't require a mass, and the mass only became a trend in the 1970's! I just think a mass could get too long for people sitting there, esp. if you may have a good number of non-catholics in the crowd. I also really like the deacon at my church and would prefer for him to do everything than split the duties with one of the priests (which is necessary for mass).

Re: Brides getting married in the Catholic Church...
I would have chosen full mass since I went to Catholic School my whole life, but FH's parents converted when he was younger to Christian. As someone also stated, the preist recommended that we not have a mass out of respect for them. But our ceremony will be 45 mins.

Re: Brides getting married in the Catholic Church...
We did just the ceremony for a few reasons. One of the biggest reasons was that you'd be surprised how many people have no clue what to do or say at a mass...to the point where I would feel embarrassed if my priest had to tell everyone, 'please sit,' and 'please stand.' Also, a lot of non-Catholic guests may not realize that they should not receive communion and get up for it and to me that's just wrong.
Do you regularly attend church that it's so important to you? Do you feel as though your guests are all practicing Catholics that will know what to do?
