I dont know if the church has a problem with out of staters, but the church we are getting married at is not our parish and they didnt even ask where we were from. If you contact the Rockville Center Diocese they can give you info on where to do pre cana. From what I know, you can get a marriage license anywhere in NY state. HTH.

The parish shouln't have a problem with it. Since your FH made all his sacrements there.

We are getting married in a church that neither one of us were from. Just b/c I live in the town now and my family Saint is there, they are allowing it.

Precana depends on the church and the Diocese. We had to do our Precana in Uniondale one of the Catholic HIgh Schools. But it was cool... We actually enjoyed it.

Re: brides not living on long island

We live outside Long Island and are getting married at the church in my parents parish.

When we met with them, I gave them my parents address as my own (I wasn't sure where we'd be living over the course of the engagement) so obviously they didn't have a problem.

As for pre-cana, when they described the program that they had, we knew it wouldn't work for us (a multi-night program). We spoke with the priest and he said we could do it anywhere as long as it was Catholic so we did a one-day one by our house (before they changed it to a 2 day format).

ETA: If you are getting married in NY, you must get your marriage license from a town in the state of NY. You can get it between 60 days and 24 hrs in advance.

I got married on LI but live in CT . we got married at the parish i did all my sacraments at....We gave our parish info in CT to LI parish...they had no problem. I had to get a letter from CT parish saying it was okay to get married on LI...easy

And we did Precana in CT and NY accepted the letter

some churches do and then some don't.. it all depends... I'm getting married at St. Thomas the Apostle and they didn't have a problem at all... FH nor I do not attend services their or did either one of us had our sacraments there as well... & we live in queens....and I'm baptist christian and FH is Catholic.

The church we are getting married at didn't have a problem with it, but some do. However, it certainly helps that your FH had all his sacraments there and his parents are parishoners. I would think you would be fine. The church I'm getting married is not the one I grew up in, nor do my parents attend there...I have no connection and it worked out.

We live in NJ and did our pre-cana at our church in NJ. As for the marriage license, it has to be from NY.
