I know there was discussion about starting a thread for those of us who have lost a parent. I was wondering how everyone is handling the invitations, ceremony, reception, etc...

Re: Brides who have lost a parent
Well, for invites my FI parents are helping, but my mom passed away and my father is not in my life. It's too hard for me to put FI's parents on the invite so we either will put ....together will our families.... or my name and FI name inviting guests

I lost my dad too. I was also wondering how to word invites. And who walks me down the aisle? And what about the father daughter dance...do we just skip that and have my FH and his mom dance?

Do you have a grandfather? Uncle? Brother? you could have one of them walk you down... or are you close with FH's father? maybe he could walk you down.... you dont have to have the dance...or you could dance with one of them...

Re: Brides who have lost a parent
I lost my dad a few years ago. My sister just got married and she skipped the father-daughter dance (we don't have any brothers, uncles, grandfathers).
As for walking down the aisle, we are Jewish and traditionally both parents walk the bride down the aisle, so just mymom walked her. My FH is Israeli and their is an Israeli custom that both mother's walk teh bride down adn both father's walk the groom down. That is what I think we will be doing.
As for invites, my sister did not put our dad's name on the invite, which I don't know if I would do. I would like to acknowledge him on my invite like, Shelly_____ daughter of _______ and the late ______...

Re: Brides who have lost a parent
My brother is walking me down the isle. Ive picked a few songs out to dance with him to for the reception, I just have to decide. I had my FI take me to my dads grave a few times. I'm feeling his loss more now even after all these years with this big life change. It was unexpected feelings that surprised me! My mom is in Florida and I do not have any good feelings about her husband. His mom has been helping and my FI has been great. I put a memory dedication to him on the program. As for the invatations, we put our names not the parents.
