Brides who have relocated to North Carolina or thinking about moving to NC..

Can you please tell me what are some of the good area's to look for buying a house?

We are just talking about it and it's not concrete, but I would like to do some searching and I'm not sure where to start. Have any websites you can recommend? TIA

we moved to Charlotte, NC rigt after the wedding and we loooove it here! we haven't bought a house yet, right now we are renting an apartment in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte. Charlotte has beautiful housing communities all over the place! IMO South Charlotte is great! anywhere near Ballantyne is beautiful (Ballantyne is like a ritzy area with huge homes and country clubs). we hope to buy a house near Ballantyne or Waxhaw (which is just south of Charlotte). Waxhaw as some beautiful communities as well and cheaper taxes because its in Union county rather than Mecklemburg county. i also prefer Union County schools, but again, that's just MY opinion from the information i have gathered in our 6 months here. i have been to Raleigh to see my inlaws new townhouse and i definitely prefer Charlotte over Raleigh. if you have any questions, send them my way! if you want to see some pics of the city part of Charlotte, click here . i ave to say i thought it would be more 'rural' here, but where we live now and where we want to buy a home is far from rural! its so developed and clean and beauttiful! good luck!

The Raleigh-Durham area is nice as well, I have friends both there and in Charlotte.

They all have wonderful houses/townhouses for a fraction of the price we'd pay here in the NY area...

Well, your 2 biggest cities are Charlotte and Raleigh (I don't recommend Durham at all!!!!).

Charlotte is bigger than Raleigh and it more 'financial'. Raleigh/Durham is more big companies, pharmaceutical type companies

Charlotte and Raleigh are nice...both have a more youthful scene. I grew up in Winston-Salem and surrounding areas...Clemmons [small town], Kernersville [small town] and High Point are also nice as well as Greensboro. WS, C, K, HP and G are all within 30 minutes total of each other.

Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston-Salem and Greensboro are the MAIN cities in the state and range from the east, central [piedmont] and to the west end of the state.

I'll say this: the real estate is MUCH cheaper, the lifestyle is more laid back and it's a GREAT place to settle down and raise a family. The weather in reality, isn't much different than NY.

My friend moved to Charlotte and loves it there!!! AND get this: she is 24, single and owns a 4 bedroom home, with a massive yard, and had a brand new car! When she lived here, she was renting a studio on a 5th floor walkup in Queens!

hey I just saw this message, I work for the carolina's if you need any help let me know. Living in the South is nice but a huge culture shock. FH wants to move back in a year or two. Everyone we run into thinks he is from Jersey bc of the soprano's.

Re: Brides who have relocated to North Carolina or thinking about moving to NC..

I just found this thread and am glad i did!! I'm moving in Aug of this year to live with my FH!! We've been doing long distance since June when he moved for work. He's in Winston - Salem and his parents are in Charlotte. I've been down there a dozen times already and seen most of the state - I love Charlotte but we have to stay in WS b/c he's in the middle of his residency. But in 2 years we're considering moving towards Wilmington -

Anyway - any advice from NY girls who moved to NC would be great! I don't know a single person except Fh and on '08er that is moving after her wedding!
