Brides who used a Memory Candle at Church Ceremony
At what point did your priest light the candle and read the names of those deceased? I am trying to put together my program and the order of things. I know that the unity candle usually goes after the rite of marriage ina catholic ceremony..but when do you should I introduce the memory candle???

you don't really introduce the memory candle per say....your Mass or ceremony is about you the couple, not the dead. the most appropriate way to do it is during the Prayer of the Faithful (which is when the petitions are read and we respond 'Lord, hear our prayer') During the Prayer of the Faithful, there is always a petiion for the dead. It was here that we included the names of the dead like DH's mother, and grandparents. We also listed the names on the last page of the program.
In terms of the candle, I had a friend light it before the Mass even started and it was left at Mary's altar. When I went over to bring flowers to Mary (after Communion), the candle was lit. In my case, this worked out well because in the program, I dedicated the song to Mary in memory of Dh's mom and oour grandmothers, so it made sense to have the candle there. Does this make sense?
Essenitally, I would just mention the names durring the Prayer of the Faithful, put names in the program, and light the candle BEFORE the Mass starts and leave it at that. you don't want it to be too morbid... the Mass/ceremony is your time, it's not a Funeral Mass! KWIM????
Does this help?

You dont really introduce the memory candle. Usually its placed on the altar and either before or after the prayer of the faithful you and FH would get up and light it. Most priests say something during the lighting such as they light this candle to show the 2 becoming one or to that affect. But it isnt announced. Definitely ask your priest, he would be able to answer that for sure.

Peggie, i think you're thinking of the unity candle. and yes, the priest just says it right after the prayer of the faithful. the memory candle though is not lit during the ceremony.
