Brides whose parents are paying...

Brides whose parents are paying...

for most of the wedding but whose FH's parents are contributing some $$.

Are you giving your FH's parents a set number of people they can invite? If so, how many people are you inviting in total and how many are your FH's parents allowed to invite?

Thanks!

I didn't give them a set number of people they could invite because I am lucky and know they don't have a crazy amount of people they want to invite.

This has been the battle of our wedding. FH's parents dont seem to understand the concept of cutting down the guest list.

We are shooting for 150 total guests at the wedding. My side is inviting about 80 (almost all will definitely come - very close family/friends), and FH's side is 'trying' to cut their list down to about the same. I have a feeling their list will be more like 90-100 (as long as they are under 100 invites, I will be happy at this point, since their list is currently about 140!)

NO i would never have dreamed to say to my FIL's 'you are only allowed____guest'.
BUT my FIL did give money on his own for added co-workers he wanted to invite...My father would NOT accept the money so it was put towards our balance on our florist!

IMO i would just see how many people they invite on their own and if you think it is extremely excessive..then have your FH say something.

For my sisters wedding, the Groom's side is giving them a honeymoon, but no $$$ towards reception...my parents are paying for 150 people, they split it 50 for them, 50 for the bride and groom , and 50 for the groom side...and if anyone goes over their 50 people they pay the overage.....

I'm not giving them a limit at this point. FI and I went over his list (which had who his parents wanted to invite) with my parents and they had no problem but to their credit, they kept the list to family and very close family friends so we haven't had any trouble yet. My parents are also really flexible so things have been pretty smooth so far. ::Keeping fingers crossed::

The only thing my FFIL is paying for is the RD and it will only be around $2k. My parents are pretty much paying for almost everything else. We knew that my side would have more people coming so it didnt even come up.

This was a HUGE battle....

We allotted my FIL's 75 guests... of course they didn't listen and invited 89, but who's counting... Basically, my parents were going to invite 75, my FIL's were SUPPOSED to invite 75 and me and DH were allotted 75.

The only thing my father asked was that
we keep it at 200 or under. They (DH's family)
actually ended up having more people than my side. But we didn't limit them; they paid for flowers and were very sweet. I think they would have liked us to have a bigger wedding since their family is so large, but it worked out fine.

I didnt give my FMIL a limit...She only put people that she is close to on her list...so there is no way I would have told her no.

My fmil gave us her definites list for the save-the-dates, and there are some more that they will want to invite and it should be fine. My side will have some more because we have a larger family - hopefully it will all work out, but my parents can't even decide between the two of them who they want to invite so you can imagine how fun it is for me haha. Doing save the dates really helped setting a base list at least...

My parents covered almost the entire bill for everything, however, I let FIL's invite whomever they wanted.

My parents are paying for the wedding. His parents offered to 'participate' but I think I misinterpreted that for 'giving money'. They are doing what they can and we can't ask for more than they can give. FH being the analyst (his job too) that he is, made a spreadsheet of our guests into 4 categories - mine, his, my parents list and his parents list. They are very even on both sides. So far, the numbers are pretty reasonable and there has been no resistance from my mother to have my FILs reduce their list. So far we have about 234 and are hoping for 200 or less to show up. Everything is subject to change. However, they will be paying for their parent photo album. My parents shouldnt have to.

I gave everyone a limit considering I could only have x amount of people in the hall. It was pretty evenly split though.

Absolutely, and I'm glad we did right up front so that they could get over their complaining. FH's parents aren't paying for anything towards the wedding. They're both divorced and remarried and his father thinks that he is entitled have an equal number invites as my parents, even though his mom has her own list also. Sorry- but wrong. The number for FH's side was 60 people- cut right down the middle so 30 people each.

Thank you for all the responses! We set a number for my FIL's a while back and it's come time to enforce it!
Just wanted to make sure that setting a limit in the first place was not out of the ordinary.
