Bridesmaid dress alterations

Bridesmaid dress alterations

One of my bridesmaids is planning to lose a lot of weight by my wedding, around 40lbs. Problem is that I need to have her measured and order a dress by this week. How much can a BM dress be taken in? 4 or more sizes?....here is a picture of the dress, what do you think?

i dont have experience with this...but looking at the dress it seems that it should be altered easily.

I am having my wedding gown altered from a size 12 (which i need around my hips and a**) to a size 4 which is what my top measurements are. The store seems to think it wont be a problem and there is a lot of detail on the dress which is why I think your bm dress should be no problem. check with the store and see what they say. maybe order it 1 size smaller then she is now to be safe?

I wouldn't worry about it too much!! The key word is 'planning.'

Lol, I just posted a dress that I ordered for a friend's wedding for sale because of this issue. When I ordered the dress I was planning on losing weight. I actually did lose 60 pounds and then had to order another dress because they couldn't take it in that much for me. I did go down like 5 sizes though and it was a mermaid style dress.

Were you able to order another dress in enough time? I am also worried that we wont have enough time to order another dress if that happens.

I ordered the original dress a year before her wedding. They came in about 6 months before her wedding and at that point I had lost all the weight. I ordered another dress immediately and it came in 1 1/2 before the wedding. Honestly, if your friend is the type that really does diet when she says she is going to and loses weight she might want to order it a size or two down. Or ask the place you are ordering the dress from. They will be able to help you too! When I ordered that dress they told me how many sizes down they could tailor the dress, I just wasn't expecting to get all the weight off that quickly so I got screwed.

There's no need to order a dress a year in advance!! My wedding is in May and my BMs haven't all ordered their dresses yet! They have until December. I think it's best to wait it out a bit!!

I would suggest that she just get sized and ask them to call her when the dress comes in, before you even start fitting. Some places get them in on time that they can return the order and get a new dress quickly with the sizes. I planned on loosing weight for some weddings and it just never happened. IF she wanted she could ask them to order 1 size smaller then she was. A little motivation but my SIL did that and she ended up gaining weight and was off by 2 dress sizes.

Becareful! My wedding is in April and I had to order my dresses by October. The bridal place said that there is issues with the Chinese New Year and it slows shipping down.
