I am having a lot of family drama over the bridesmaid dresses. I think as long as I pick the same designer everyone should be able to pick the dress they are most comfortable with. My family disagrees because they feel the pictures will look weird. I just want black floor length dresses. Thoughts???

This is not uncommon and I think it looks fine. Actually better than fine. I think the pics would be worse if 1/2 the girls looked terrible in the dress. Let them pick what works best for them and the pics will look great...especially if they are black!

I have seen plenty of pictures where the bridesmaids are wearing different dresses but in the same color and it looks fabulous. I'm doing that myself i want my girls to be comfortable since they are all shapes and sizes.

Re: Bridesmaid dress help!
My friend did this. She picked the colors and she picked like 3 or 4 different style dresses ALL the same FABRIC (just be careful with that.) They SHOULD be the same fabric because THATS when the pics can look really weird. BUT she picked 3 or 4 different styles so this way everyone could feel comfortable. And she picked 1 for the MOH separate that wasnt part of the 3 or 4 so this way the MOH could stand out.
I was going to do the same thing, but ended up falling in love with a dress that was from the 09 Levkoff summer collection that was brand new and there were no other styles made in the colors I have so I had to just do 1 dress.
But I think its a great idea! =)

i think itll look fine, id personally prefer if they were somewhat similar like the same fabric or something like that but i dont think that itll make it look bad if theyre not, go for it!

I have seen a lot of people do that and I think it's fine as long as they are the same color and the same fabric... If the dresses are a different fabric then I think it might look weird

in my album i have a dress my girls are wearing..from davids bridal...i have girls a size zero and and a size like 26. the dress flatters all of them
check it out..it was a reasonable price and im sure it comes in black.
its a forgiving dress...i mean it would all be the same. i think they would all feel comfy

I disagree with this, actually. I think having the girls in the same color is enough. For my friend's wedding, she allowed all 9 girls to pick any floor length, black gown we chose. No two dresses were of the same designer, style, or fabric. For my wedding, I used JCrew dresses, and while all of the dresses were the exact same color, they were all different fabrics. In both cases, the dresses photographed more than fine.
Letting your girls choose their own dresses can, IMO, make your photographs even better, bc we all know we smile bigger when we feel good about ourselves and are comfortable with what we're wearing.

I had my girls pick out their own dress in the same color. I told them all to get the same length, fabric and color and I have to say they looked great. They all were so confident in their dresses because they all felt comfortable.

I gave my girls a choice of 4 dresses and they all picked the same one except for one girl!! I have no problem with just one being in a different dress, because it's the same color and length and designer. She will look great, and be comfortable! Good luck with your decision!

ITA... I've been in 8 wedding... 2 of which had the BMs in diff dresses. One was the sam color, designer, but offered diff top/bottom styles. Her pictures were amazing. My cousins, although a destination wedding, had tropical colors, same dress and it looked really nice on the diff body types.
