Bridesmaid Dress Question w/ Poll

Bridesmaid Dress Question w/ Poll

I think that a nice tea length dress is ok for a formal wedding. FH thinks that it should be floor length.

I am attaching a picture of the dress I have in mind.

FYI ~ MOH LOVES this dress and says that she would be more likely to use it again than a longer one which is also important to me....

I think you should go with whatever you like - don't worry if it's longer or shorter. This would work for a formal wedding....

do whatever you love. it's your day

IMO this dress is not dressy enough for a formal night wedding....and I am only saying this because you used the word formal. This dress looks like a perfect Sat afternoon in June dress...but you should remember this is yours and FH wedding and you should do what makes you happiest...ignore all the 'rules' and make it your own.

I think it is a beautiful choice, and if your friends have the chance to possibly wear it again, that is another plus! I've been in 6 or 7 weddings, and the only time I've worn a BM dress again is when I had the dress cut down to tea length!! Hope this helps!

i think it is certainly formal enough.

first of all, i agree with you should do whatever you want-its your day-but I think you already know that, so no point in stating the obvious

tea length dresses are simple, elegant, and re-usable, and they are totally in style now. They are now considered formal.

in fact i just read an article in some bridal mag about how tea length dresses are the new thing now and a dress doesn't have to be long to be considered formal.

anyway, i think the dress is gorgeous!!! go for it.

and with that post, i apparently went from 'board fanatic' to 'addicted'

anyway, I googled it for you and got this from an etiquette site:

I've decided on a black tie wedding, can my attendants wear knee length dresses?

Absolutely! Knee length dresses can be quite formal and modern if your bridesmaids are polished and properly accessorized. The overall look and feel of the details are what set the tone of the wedding, knee length dresses won't affect this at all.

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Question w/ Poll

haha! here's another one that's kinda funny

I was thinking that tea length bridesmaid dresses would blend in with our theme, but I'm not sure what is 'proper etiquette' regarding tea length for an evening wedding. I appreciate your help!

- Does Length Matter?

Dear Length,

Has an Edwardian spirit, anxious about the sight of exposed ankles, taken over your circle? If not, then you are not only in the clear, your choice of tea length dresses is entirely appropriate and classic. If that is, in fact, the case, may I swing by? I have all kinds of dining and corset inquiries.

Tea length, for the curious, refers to dresses (and skirts) where the hem ends mid-calf. This length is quite safe. It shows off ankles, while covering knees and thighs, and this possibly accounts for why, traditionally speaking, this hemline has long been popular for bridesmaid dresses. As always, style is everything and I'm sure people can trot out examples of tea length dresses that are fabulous and hideous, but your choice is entirely reasonable and consistent with your plans.

These days anything goes....BMs don't even have to wear the same dress, color or even be girls....that said, yes, I am being rather traditional....BUT that's me.....if you want a tea length dress and your BMs are game, GO FOR IT!! You are getting married in Sept....still summer, still an appropriate choice....and very pretty I might add...we are having long dresses.....cause that'sjust what I picked....but the style is simple enough that it can be worn again.....and can even be chopped off and worn again. This tea length dress saves your girls the trouble of having to get it hemmed twice.

We're having a formal wedding, and my BM's are wearing tea length. I just LOVE the look! You can have whatever you want. And I love that my girls LOVE the dress we picked! They all say they will definitely wear it again! (I even want to buy one for myself!)
