So I have appointments this weekend to go look at bridesmaid dresses (finally) with my girls.
I have it narrowed down to possibly two choices, one a chiffon dress, and one a satin dress.
My dress is big and poofy and satin - I'm thinking the chiffon, which is narrow and flowy, will look odd next to my dress. I kind of feel like I should try to match their dress to my dress's material.
What should I do?

i don't think the materials needs to match. my dress is silk taffeta, and my girls are wearing satin. with that said though, i purposely chose a more fitted BM dress because i'm wearing a ballgown,.

I don't think the dresses need to be the same material...I would just go with a dress that you like.

well i started with a satin dress and kind of thought the same thing so i went with satin bm dresses, then i changed my dress 3 months before the wedding and it was silk taffeta. i got a little nervous that it wouldnt look right but it was perfectly fine that day.
imo, as the long as the size of their dress doesnt overpower yours, the material isnt a big deal at all

I think you may find that it's difficult to find a dress that's perfect for all BM's. I wouldn't narrow your choices down so much until your girls start trying dresses on.
I picked out a few dresses for my girls before went shopping and then when they actually tried those dresses on, they didn't look good on everyone. I definitely don't think they have to match your material or style of your wedding dress.

Mine is nothing like the bmaids - I just went with a dress for them that's flattering.

Have your girls try on all sorts of dresses and then make a decision. Don't pick based off of pictures.
With that said, you don't need to match their dresses with yours. My dress is a big organza ballgown with lots of detail and my girls are wearing a-line chiffon with virtually no detail.

My dress is lace and i'm looking at some satin dresses. I never thought I wanted satin for them, but I have found a few that I like...
I don't think it has to MATCH, but it's up to you if your vision is that they should match....... then match them...
Nobody will overpower you... there's no contrast issue... you're the BRIDE... everything else is just details...
