OK, so long story short, i have a girl who dropped out of the BP because of financial issues. she also has a lot of fam things going on right now and i can't say i blame her.....
here's the question: it's 6 weeks before the wedding, do i ask someone else ( a hs friend that i was sort of wanting to ask originally), or just have an uneven number?
also... if my friend steps in... does she pay the old BM for the 100 deposit she put down on the dress orig?

Re: Bridesmaid drop out...
i would say, its a little late to ask someone, they may feel that ur askign them 6 weeks before is a little last minute and may be insulted. I would just have the uneven number to not offend anyone.
I love that we are using the same photog, and your getting married on my Bday!!!
Good luck with whatever you choose though!

I had the relatively the same situation happen. I just dealt with the uneven number. It wont look silly in pics. You can have your Made of Honor with 2 groomsman. If you ask someone last minute then they may feel you are just trying to get a quota. Go with your original choices and if it doesnt work out than thats that. Atleast that is what I did.

Re: Bridesmaid drop out...
I'm guessing that they'd both fit in the same dress. If so, I'd ask her, and I'd cover the $100 for her.
Edit: Personally, I wouldn't be offended if someone asked me to fill in, as long as I wasn't expected to start shelling out $$$ for all kinds of stuff. I'll put the dress on and show, I'm not spending hours assembling your favors and kicking in hundreds for your shower, bachelorette, etc.

Re: Bridesmaid drop out...
I had 2 BM's drop out (both prego and will be about to pop at my wedding!) And I did ask 2 of my other friends to be in my wedding Luckiliy my BM dropped out early and I did not feel so bad about asking my girls late. However 6 weeks before your wedding may be cutting it close, so I would say to just stick with the number you have.

I don't think I would ask anyone so close to the wedding date... but if anyone of your friends volunteered and wanted to do it I would let them!

Re: Bridesmaid drop out...
A similar thing happened with my sister last year. One of her friends found a new BF about 4 months before the wedding and stopped talking to or seeing anyone else. My sister tried to contack her for about a month and a half and never got a responce, her dress was in and the BM never picked it up. She asked me to step up in her place - I wasn't at all offended, I knew why she had origianlly chosen this friend. I was honored to be her BM and help her out in her time of need.
I did not pay back the original BM for the deposit and my sister actaully paid for the balance of the dress since it was so close to the wedding. She didn't have to do that, but I did appreciate it.

Re: Bridesmaid drop out...
if you have someone you would like to be in the BP, i would ask, and explain the situation as best you can - but expect them to be a little miffed they weren't asked to begin with. also, i always think that the bride should help to defray some of the costs in cases like this. is it financially feasible for you to give your friend the $100 she put down on the dress?

Re: Bridesmaid drop out...
thanks ladies... there wouldn't be any more responsibilities at this point other than the cost of the rest of the dress (100), shoes (60), and showing up with a smile on haha. I didn't ask the girls to get their hair done, and there weren't any assembly lines (at this point the invites are out anyways), also I already had my shower, and my mom paid for the whole thing. The only thing left is the RD, the wedding, and the bach party which this girl was going to anyways....

as someone who DID have a drop out--i would just say leave it as is. you have 6 wks and i think its late to ask someone else to be in it. its okay to have an uneven BP number...i did, and it was fine!

Just go it with the uneven number one of your friends may be insulted that you are asking them so last minute. At least her reason for her dropping is understandable.

Re: Bridesmaid drop out...
It might just be me, but if I was asked to 'fill in' I would be a little hurt that I wasn't asked in the first place and then had to pull together cash for all the wedding things I'd need (the dress, jewelry, shoes, etc) in such a short time. I would just have an uneven amount.
I actually do have an uneven amount ( more girls) and FH and groomsmen are going to all hang out and greet guests before ceremony and girls will be with me and when ceremony starts..all girls will walk down aisle by themselves. Maybe that can be an option if you're concerned about it....
