I have a problem..........I realized now I have no bridesmaids and my wedding is in less than a year! I work in a small office in the accounting department and I work with all women that are all over 40!! Then I come home and I have to take care of my mom mostly because she's on dialysis on hardly ever has any energy to anything around the house. So I really don't have any time for friends except for 1. I could have my DH niece who is 21 and my FSIL that is 42. But they are not friendly with me. Would any one of you have people that weren't that close with you??? I was thinking of just having a MOH and 1 BM but I have always had a dream of having a bigger bridal party.

Re: Bridesmaids
No way, just have who feel is close to you. Dont ask people with whom you have no connection. If its two its two, nothing wrong with that.

Re: Bridesmaids
Just have those you feel closest with. For me I set up a rule that in order to be in the bridal party you have to be related to me...stupid I know I just know to many women that when you look at their wedding albulm and ask who certain people are a lot of times you get an answer like 'ooh some girl I used to be friends with' I just did not want to have that.

It doesn't matter how many people are in your bridal party. Just pick the person, people, closest to you.

Re: Bridesmaids
I am only having a MOH & a jr. bridesmaid(my sister is 10). Truthfully there are a few others I could have asked to be bridesmaids, but personally I liked the idea of a small bridal party. I get to surround myself with people who know me best & will be able to keep me calm. After all our years of friendship we know each others worst side & how to handle it.

Just who is close to you --- you don't want to be looknig at your wedding pictures in 5 or 10 years saying, wow, I don't even talk to that person anymore!

I agree, dont pick people, just for the heck of it, pick the people whom you want to share in your special day.

I agree. Have only those you are close to, even if all you have is 1 MOH, it's the relationship that you have with her that counts, not the number of BMs.

I agree with everyone else -- don't find bridesmaids just for the sake of having them. Do you really want to be surrounding by people you aren't close to in the last minutes before you walk down the aisle? My FI asked 6 guys to be in his wedding party, but I on'ly have 4 girls I really feel close with, so we are just having an uneven party -- to me, that was better than having people I'm not that close with.

I agree with everyone. Only have the people who are closest to you. You want to be surrounded by the people who love you and are the happiest for you.

Re: Bridesmaids
I would stick with the people that are closest to you. We've heard too many girls on this board complaining about how their BM's aren't helping out and all the problems they are having with them. Plus I think if you just start asking people just to add a body in the line the two people you are closest too won't really feel like they are special.

Re: Bridesmaids
Okay! So this is going to make you feel much better....
I was looking through my mothers wedding album and my father had something like 10 groomsmen. My mother didn't have any!!! I asked her why- she has a lot of friends... and she said to me that 'she wanted to be the star'... Thirty years ago the thing to do was to have no bridesmaids. The bride was totally showered by the groom and groomsmen- adored by them!
I think,-- if I could get away with this I would- that it would be cool and different to do that again!

Re: Bridesmaids
Also, just to add..... one of the lovliest, most spiritual, and classiest weddings I ever saw had one bridesmaid and one maid of honor. It was 100% class----other weddings I've seen- the bride gets lost in the crowd of women. Also, keep in mind people are coming to see you enter into a life with someone else--- not your bridesmaids.

Re: Bridesmaids
Perfect post for me.
I debated about this as well. I am only having a MOH. My fiancee is having 5 guys. At first he was confused as to why I did not want to ask my friends to be bridesmaids. I knew in my gut that some of them would give me a hard time. They are lovely ladies, however they all have very different personalities and I knew it would be the biggest production picking out dresses, accessories, etc, and also they have problems with being on time, so I really did not want to deal with that.
I thought I would look like the biggest idiot with just one female attendant and all guys, but the wonderful ladies on this board assured me that it would be fine.
Again, like some of the other replies stated, do not put people in your wedding just for the sake of it, and remember you need to pick people you can depend on.
