Sooo....I have 5 bridesmaids and a maid of honor....my sister is moh and my other sister is a bm...i also asked 2 friends from hs, a friend from college, and a friend from grad school.......we all keep in touch relatively regularly....they were my best friends during the respective stages of my life and since we're still pretty good friends, i thought it would be really nice sharing such a special time so closely with them. I'm not expecting much from my bm's....but i do expect consideration, concern, and support from them. i know $ can be tight for people, so i'm not making them get their hair and makeup done, and i'm not picking very elaborate outfits for them to wear. unfortunately, I can't afford to buy all their outfits, but i have accommodated them by choosing indian outfits (as opposed to a dress) because that's what most of them wanted and it ends up being a little more affordable for them. i sent a message to all my girls asking who would want to get their hair and makeup done so i can tell my vendors.....2 of them already wrote back and said they'd do it themselves and they'd be getting ready at home...instead of at the hotel room. i feel like they haven't been calling to see how things are going or if they can help with anything during the process....2 of them didn't come to my engagement party....a couple are already saying they might not be able to come/don't want to come/can't afford to come to the shower or bachelorette party...and now i feel like they're not going to be very supportive on the day of either! Especially if they're not going to be around to not just help me get ready, but be there to share in the excitement of getting ready...........i mean, isn't that the very least bm's can do?? Ugh, sorry...I just had to vent and purge some of my feelings, I'm very frustrated and sometimes I feel like I should have just asked my sisters and no one else. Thanks for listening

Re: Bridesmaids
oh no thats terrible...i dont expect much of mine and havent asked them to do anything really i just want them there for the wedding things..i would over anything at least expect them to attend the shower/bachelorette party (as long as u are doing something locally- if u were going away i would see why some might not be able to afford it- tho if u are doing something in LI or NYC they should attend no questions asked) and especially there for you the day of..what are they going to do meet u at the church (or where ever u are having the ceremony) on the day of and thats it?? thats terrible id be really upset also! i would def just send them an email or something saying how important they are too u and thats why u chose them to be a part of your bridal party and how important it is to u for them to attend these things

Re: Bridesmaids
The bachelorette party will be a mani/pedi and brunch, so my younger sister can participate...and then staying over at mohegan sun for a night.....nothing crazy....nothing too expensive....nothing too out of the way. and the bridal shower will probably be really low key.....maybe at my house or just at a regular restaurant. I'm asking them to at least meet me at the hotel so we can get to the church together.....i don't want to be waiting at the church for my bm's to show up. for any future bm's out there....just know that when you agree to do the job, it means a lot to the person who is asking you, so pleaseeee be as supportive as possible

Re: Bridesmaids
do the BM who don't want to attend functions live far away?
And what are you expecting of them on the day of the wedding? When I was a BM for my brother's wedding, the MOH did everything that was needed, and even if I wanted to help I wasn't 'allowed.'
For the BM who want to get ready at home, could they get ready early and meet you at the hotel to help you get ready?

One just moved to FL and one lives in MD....so I do understand if they can't come to EVERYTHING....but neither of them even came to my engagement party. And I don't necessarily want them to help with 'things', just help by being there during the whole thing. I'm hoping that they will get ready early and meet me at the hotel....I'm sure it won't be before I get ready though bc the ceremony is at like 10am...so I have to be ready pretty early. Oh well.
And like you said....you wanted to help but wasn't allowed....my girls don't even seem to want to help.

Re: Bridesmaids
Hmmm....the out of state thing makes it tough. Most of mine live out of state and I really don't think they'll be involved at all until the wedding. Some of them haven't really asked much about my plans, but I think they'll be excited on the day of...
I know your feelings are hurt but I wouldn't let it stress you out too much. I'm sure they are excited and happy---even if they're not showing it much yet.

Re: Bridesmaids
I have been trying to just enjoy planning w/ my mom, fh and by myself--it's fun to me. i mostly call my bms to chat about planning. they are def thereto help if i need it, though.. i suggest that you focus on your big day and dont stress about the others.

Re: Bridesmaids
I would send them an email and let them know that it is important to you that you all get ready together. I hope they start to cooperate soon

Re: Bridesmaids
i know it is frustrating but defintely send them a message how important them being there with you is. i am not asking much of my bm's either and my moh is trying to get pregnant so i know that my wedding is not her top priority haha. one of my bm's didnt come to my engagement party and i got upset but i keep telling myself-life does not stop for my wedding, but yes they should be supportive...i am trying really hard to make it easy on my bm's by choosing a simple black bm dress that they can wear again-it was not that expensive (ann taylor celebrations line) and they can wear any old strappy sandal that they have. my gift to them is hair and makeup....i would defintely just tell them how you are feeling!!

Re: Bridesmaids
I think I am just going to tell them how I feel and that I would really love for them to be there with me while I'm getting ready to just share in the whole process with me.
Thanks for listening, caring, and for your advice and input girls
