Bridesmaids...

Bridesmaids...

...what is a realistic age cut-off? My 'little sister' will be 14 by the time the wedding comes around and I'm wondering if she should be a bridesmaid or a jr. bridesmaid. What's the general rule of thumb when it comes to age?

She won't be riding in the limo with the rest of the BP since she'll be under 21, but I also don't want to insult her and make her feel like a little kid by having the jr. in front of her title. I was a jr. bridesmaid in my aunt's wedding, but I was also 9 at the time.

Opinions please!

is she going to have the same dress as the rest of the girls...if she is then just call her a bm
you can always just tell her she is a bm and dont add the jr.

i had my flower girl and ring bearer in the limo with everyone. didnt want them to feel left out!

Re: Bridesmaids...

I'd call her a bridesmaid. Is she not allowed in the limo? I've been in plenty of bridal parties where people were under 21 and there was alcohol in the car. Have we been breaking the law? haha.

No, nothing saying we can't have her in the limo, just a personal choice on that one, since the rest of our BP are rather sick-minded individuals who lack shut-up filters. I'm not 100% on her not coming in the limo, but I think for everyone it would prob. be best if she goes with mom & dad and meets us at the RH. She's like my little sister, and I know I'd be sitting there trying to get everyone else to behave and I'm honestly not sure if I want to spend my wedding day giving ppl nasty 'shut up!' looks (kinda selfish, I know).

I don't think that selfish to not want to 'babysit' (I don't mean it to sound rude, you know what I mean though) on your wedding day, you should be able to relax and have fun. I actually hadn't even thought of this aspect of my Jr BM going in the limo . . . She's 13 and our Jr GM is 10, now I'm wondering what we'll do with them.

Having her ride with her parents doesn't sound like a bad idea, you could use the alcohol as an excuse I guess?

Given your reasoning I think it's perfectly appropriate to have her go with some relatives and not in the limo. I would have felt the same way. Our BP is DISGUSTING and that is why we love them, but not appropriate for a 14 year old.

Never really thougth about this but i will have two jrBM and 2 jrGM a FG and RB. Thats 6 extra in a limo, yea they might just have to ride with mom and dad.

She may feel left out not going in the limo. shes 14 not 7 i am sure she has herd much worse at school. Kids are not as immature as they used to be.

Re: Bridesmaids...

My sister was 14 and she was my maid of honor! She is my favorite person so why not? She was so mature and wonderful helping me with everything on the day of, it was such a pleasure. I would say definitely call her a bm so she doesn't feel left out.

Im having my 16 yr old cousin and calling her a bm. I guess any younger than that I might call it a jr bridesmaid

Re: Bridesmaids...

I think at 14, and being the sister of the bride, I'd have her be a BM.

Definitely a BM. I was 12 in my aunt's wedding and was a jr. BM, but I think once you get to high school, you can be a BM.

I agree...shes your sister so I would go to BM. I can see why you dont want her in the limo but how does she feel about that?

I think at 14 she would be a junior bridesmaid.

Re: Bridesmaids...

I would say that especially since she is your sister she should be a BM.
Also something to consider...are your parents going with you to take pictures? I know I am just having mine meet us at the RH, not coming to the beach. Something else to think about when not having her in the limo.
I do agree with the above post that 14 isn't as immature as it used to be...you should hear what these kids talk about at school!!

Re: Bridesmaids...

I know, it's scary what the kids are doing at this point! I work in a middle school, so I see what goes on...our dance team has had to re-work their dance 2 times now (and I'm sure it will have to happen again) due to the suggestive nature. But she's still my little sis...she doesn't think that way (ok fine, so in my mind she doesn't...)

Thanks for all the thoughts, ladies!

Re: Bridesmaids...

Junior bridesmaids typically range from 8 to 16, but it's really based on each couple's preference.

I have 3 younger sisters who will be 13, 16 and 16 (twins). I'm going to have them be junior bridesmaids because they won't be participating in the dances with groomsmen, and aren't invited to the bachelorette party. I have sick-minded friends too, and don't want them to be exposed to it ha.
