You definitely don't have to ask at your engagement party. I've only actually seen a couple of girls do this. If you were sure and wanted to do it, go for it. But if you are not 100% positive, just wait. You don't need to really tell them until you're a year out- or even under. There are a lot of 2012 girls who picked too soon and are dealing with stress now. HTH and good luck!

I did the same thing and I wish I didn't. I have too much drama to deal with now.

I picked my girls quickly as FH picke dhis groomsmen almost instantly. In just a few months things have changed and i wish i could make some changes now and cant, and i feel stuck. Its a crappy feeling b/c i feel like certain people should be there and they wont be. I woudl wait b/c you ahve a while until the wedding but thats my opinion.

HTH

Re: bridesmaids

thanks for the input...i'm just in between having two maids o0f honor or now because likely my FH will have two best men...and my best friend and I always said we would be each others MOHs, but we've drifted significantly in the last year, and i'm still her MOH, but i was also MOH in my cousins wedding and we are verrrry close...

plus my FH wanted me to potentially ad a few women from his side in which case then i want a few men on his side...but then our parties are each 7 people....that seems like a lot...we were originally thinking 5 and 5...?

Re: bridesmaids

I asked all my girls already. I didn't ask them in a special way.. I just asked them in person. But eventually I plan to have a lil G2G with them and I want to do something cute. I saw some 1 bride on here who had cookies made that say bridesmaid or 'will you be my bridesmaid' so I'm thinking of doing that. I also plan to ask my 'something blue' in that way.

I say if you aren't 100% sure than wait. You don't need to do it before the party. With me I asked right away bcuz I had already knew for sure.

CRASHING...You ask when you are ready, Don't feel pressured to have it all done by then.

I agree with most of whats already been said...esp how you dont need to tell the girls at the E-party. But, (this is a person specific topic), i dont think its ever 'too early' to ask. I have 9 girls in my BP and each one is very special to me (including family and friends), and i'm not worried about any of us 'drifting apart'...but thats me!

What i did, was basically tell most of them as soon as we got engaged, because i already knew they would be in the party. I'm having two MOHs since i have two sisters and FH is having two BM because he has two brothers (talk about luck LOL). But, at my E-Party (which was 5 months after the engagement), i bought the girls tote bags that say 'Bridesmaid', also bought beer coozies that are pink and say BM (i have the bride and groom matching coozies) and also made a little sign to put at their table. I was thinking about making cards, but i waited too long and didnt have the time. So I basically went to powerpoint, found a picture of me and the BM and then a cute poem (oh i love the internet) and the top said 'Will you be my BM', then the picture and then the poem. Everyone thought they were very cute! My little cousin (about 15 at the time) almost broke down in tears. It was really special.

My FH on the other hand went the silly way (since he is basically the class clown of our group). We bought all his men (all 12 of them) a harmonica. Put the harmonia in a brown paper bag with a note stating that they has XYZ number of days to learn how to play a song on that harmonia at the wedding....if they did not have something prepared, they would loose their Tux and have to stay at the wedding naked. Everyone loved it!

Again, this is just what we did.
Good luck!

Re: bridesmaids

I think it doesn't matter when you ask. I have 4 sisters so it was automatic that they would be BM's and my MOH and I have been friends since kindergarten, so it wasn't difficult for me at all.

I definitely dont think you need to announce it at your engagement party. My FH and I just asked out MOH and he is going to ask his BM before our engagement party but that's it
