Bridesmaids Dresses
Just curious, as brides, how do you go about picking out bridesmaids' dresses? Do you pick it out yourself and then tell the girls or do you go shopping together? I am in a wedding party next year and she has decided on the color and what style the dress will be. She has already seen a dress she likes while shopping with her mother and it seems like this is what she wants. Just wanted to know if this is how it is usually done.

Bridesmaids Dresses
I found one in a magazine I loved, but when I tried it on, I hated it. I found it best that my sister try on the dresses, because I want her and the other bms to look good. but if that one dress had looked good, I would have wanted them to get that one. The weddings I have been in, they have just sent a picture and told me where to get it.

Bridesmaids Dresses
I went with one of my bridesmaids. We picked 2 dresses and the rest of the girls unanimously picked the dress. I chose the color.

Bridesmaids Dresses
I have been in weddings where it has done both ways. One wedding I was called by the bride and said this is the dress I want you to get and this is where to go. The other two weddings the girls went with the bride and tried stuff on. The brides decided what they liked best after seeing lots of different dresses.

Bridesmaids Dresses
I found 3 dresses that I really liked (all by the same designer) and I am taking my girls to see them and try them on and hopefully we will all come to an easy agreement!! Is this wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking
I think it is very possible your maids will come to an agreement but have your favorite chosen beforehand-especially if your brides don't know each other! That way, if an agreement can't be reached you can 'mandate' your favorite. Do you mind sharing photos of the dresses you like? Im still looking. THANKS!

Thanks - website of my bridesmaids' dresses
Thanks for the advice - I already have my favorite picked out. The dresses can be found at www.dessy.com and the style numbres are 1943, 1952, and 1954. 1952 seems to be the girls'' favorite and it is my favorite too!. The color is claret and it is so gorgeous in person. Also, I found a small shop in the bridal building that sells dessy and after six dresses for $50 off the retail price - huge bargain!! Good luck!

My bridesmaids got Dessy dresses when I got married last year and the quality is very good. If you are worried about quality, Alfred Angelo is a designer you probably want to stay away from. The quality is not that good.

My bridesmaids are wearing DESSY also.
However, they changed their website and I can no longer see my style, #1884.

my bridemaids dresses are dessy and they seem like great quality....but they haven't worn them yet...after the wedding i'll let you know how they held up. i was in my friends wedding this past june and her dresses were jim helm and they were falling apart by the end of the day. all 5 of our dresses ad holes in them...threads were coming out...it was a bad secene especially since we spent $250 on them. it really depends on the actual dress...i think name desingers dresses are better quality but depending on the actual dress and style will determine how much it can stand. Good luck!

More on Dessy dresses
My MOH saw the Dessy website and liked a couple of the dresses. Can I ask those using Dessy where they ordered the dresses from, and also what color are you getting. They have a lot of colors to choose from on the website, and I was wondering which ones are nice in person.

Dessy dresses
From the samples I have seen the quality seems great - no different from the Jim Helm and Waters and Waters dresses I have worn in the past. The colors are much different in person but the website gives you a good idea. My bridesmaids are wearing Claret - which is a fabulous Red that isn`t too bright or orangy and not too dark either - IT IS PERFECT! Red has always been my favorite color and I fell in love with the Claret shade by Dessy. I found an incredible deal on dessy dresses at a small shop in the Bridal Building - 25% off retail prices and they have every dessy and after six dress. Good luck.

Yes, they are. There are two different styles that are similiar. We ordered the one that is crepe on top and satin onthe bottom because the shawl has a wire in it that helps it to stay on your shoulders.

Bridal Building - 1385 Broadway (38th street)
Check out H&S on the 11th floor (ask for Simon)- he only carries Dessy and After Six dresses and sells them at 25% off retail price. He gets them directly from the manufacturer, who happens to be in the bridal building as well! The dresses my bridesmaids are getting are $210 retail and he is giving them to us for $160 and has capped the alterations at $35 - excellent deal! I love when I find a bargain!Welcome New Vendors
