Bridesmaids dresses

I went last night with my best friend to look at Bm dresses and she was acting like it was her wedding, and trying to get me to change the color I want... She keeps saying it is an early spring wedding you should go with a light color, etc. Every BM dress I picked out she had a comment for, etc. Does any one have any suggestions on how to take care of this situation before I start to lose it completely? I am having 5BM, all body types, so I am trying to accomadate her because she is heavy set. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Maybe you can compromise.

Yes, it is your wedding and you have ultimate veto rights, but your bridesmaids still need to pony up the money for these gowns and actually wear them!

Of course, it would be nice if she just let you pick what you wanted and shut up no matter how much she hated it. But in that scenario she is not going to feel very good about herself on your wedding day and it will show.

To alleviate the stress of picking something yourself, ask her to provide you with some options and then choose between those.

If you have ever been the victim of a BM dress you disliked - you can empathsize with her.

My suggestion

I would consider going with separates. Not sure what exactly you want but David's Bridal has an entire line of matching tops and bottoms but the girls can pick which top is best for them.
I went to Bridal Suite- Centereach and got my girls a velvet off the shoulder top and long A line satin skirt. Everyone looked great in it, and they are all very different body types too.
I also did not ask everyone 'What color do you want to wear'. I wanted a deep plum and that was that. Just tell her, 'I appreciate your opinion. But I really want the color to be XX.'
If you go with a very simple dress and keep away from funky waistlines and super tight fits I am sure you will be able to find something perfect.

I let her pick out dresses she is very into new wave fashions, and I want elegant. She is just being very annoying! I do not know how to handle it, the dresses I am picking are very simple and A line, and very flattering for all figure types.

Susanlynn...long

When I went looking for BM dresses I had a similar problem with one BM. She didn't like anything that I chose (and from past experiences with her I knew she wouldn't). I decided to let the girls choose ones that they liked but I was very firm on the color. My sister finally found one that was beautiful and three out of my 4 BM's loved it. The three girls ordered but the 4th one went on her own to order it. She called me later on that night and told me that when she tried the dress on all the girls in the bridal shop laughed hysterically and said that they couldn't believe that someone would actually picked the dress. I knew she was saying this to try to get me to change my mind but I stood firm and she finally ordered the dress and has not complained since.

My point is that you can allow the girls a little freedom but stick firm to things that you really want and let all the girls know that the final decision will be yours.
Good Luck!!

Susanlynn...if you have tried to accomadate her...

and she is still being a pain then tell her: 'I have tried my best to accomadate you in x, y and z ways and nothing makes you happy. I do not like the dresses you have chosen and since this is MY wedding, you are just going to have to choose something I like'

Too bad for her. Some people!

Suggestions... Are you comfortable with

choosing a color and fabric from one of the big designers like Bill Lefkoff or Waters & Waters and letting ea bridesmaid choose their own gown. With uniform color and fabric and flowers it still looks a wedding party and everyone is comfortable and beautiful because ea lady has a gown that flaters their figure.

I did what Fran M did. I chose the color, mfg and material and said to pick a dress that met those criteria. (Dessy/After Six, Matte Satin Bordeaux). They had at least 20 dresses to choose from. If they didn't find one from the group then they have a problem! I was also in a bridal party where the bride chose about 5 dresses and we all chose one of the 5.

If you want them all to be the same then I would pick out 2 or 3 and have them vote..majority rule. I also think if you really have your heart set on a color you should not change that unless someone has a really, really legit reason (and I can't think of many).

As accomodating as you can try to be you always have someone who will complain...I don't understand it but what can you do? (I had some problems and I let them pick their own basically....just don't get it??)
