brunch dilemma

brunch dilemma

hey all... so in our planning, we kind of neglected to plan a real day-after brunch. I left a lot of the planning to the last minute so it kind of fell by the wayside. then last week we decided we might as well plan something, just very small, immediate family members, in the city in the area where my family and FH and I all live. FH's family live out in LI so this would be a drive back in for them (RD and wedding are in NYC also). last night, FFIL suggested that we host a brunch at his restaurant (FH's family owns restaurants on LI). the restaurant is closed until dinner on Sundays, so we would have the whole place to ourselves and then could invite as many people, family members, friends, etc, as we want, and they would obviously cover the cost since its their restaurant. FH and I thought this was a nice offer, except that its really last minute at this point and I'm not sure if people are even available bc we never mentioned we might do a brunch. plus, my mom is being a little difficult about it bc she would really prefer to not leave the city. however, both my parents and FH and I keep cars in the city and the restaurant is in Nassau (Woodbury), so it would be a quick drive, and all of the family members who would come live in Nassau and Queens. what do you all think? is it worth trying to do at this late point, or should we just keep to the original plan?? TIA !

Well I dunno.... since you are having everything else in the city, a Sunday brunch on LI might be a nice, laid back change of scenery. Plus, since it's at your FH's restaurant, you don't have to stress about finding a place in the city that will accommodate your group. And, since the cost is being covered by FH's family, that is a huge plus. But if going to LI is honestly going to be a huge pain for you and your family and people won't come, then just stay in the city.

thanks... well it would be slightly more annoying for FH and I, and my parents, since we are in NYC, but everyone else is on LI already, so it would be easier for them. I am really undecided. its also a really nice restaurant and then we don't have to worry about finding a last minute reservation for 11-12 people in the city. my mom is the type of person who doesn't like to go more than 5 blocks away so I can't fully rely on her opinion

Can you convince the family that lives on LI that you would want at the brunch to stay at a hotel the night of the wedding that way there is no back and forth? It would be so much easier for them anyway.

I know, that was the original plan but they have a dog so they figured they would just go home after the wedding to let it out and come back the next day, and FSIL and her husband have a stepson who they have to pick up on Sunday morning out on LI so there were some complications as to why they didn't end up staying in a hotel.
