BTDT Moms I have a ??? for you...

Emma is getting into the stage where she can tell you what she wants and what she doesnt wat. My issue is when shes telling us what she doesnt want to do her temper shows... and boy does she have a temper. She smacks her hands at whatever is closest to her and yells (we dont hit, I dont believe in it). When we take her away from something she wants she cries.

How do I handle this? How do I get it to stop and yet not give in to her demands??

I am not a mom but I would just let her cry and be firm when I say no. Eventually she will stop crying and she will learn that she can't have everything she wants.

How old is Emma again? She's under 2 right. I agree with a firm but gentle no. Then try to direct her attention to something else.

Re: BTDT Moms I have a ??? for you...

All you can do really is the firm but gentle no, which she won't like either Just try to set limits and stick to it. She is really too young for anything else Hope this helped

I know what you are saying Stacey. I just dont want Emma to be a bratty kid throwing tantrums and thinking she can always get her way. Know what I mean?

Re: BTDT Moms I have a ??? for you...

When the kids at my day care throw tantrums what I usually do is sit next to them and say let me know when your done, they cry a little and then realize they are not getting their own way and they stop. We shall see if I can be this firm with my own when he comes

the important thing to remember is consistency. If you tell her she can't have - be sure to stick with it. If you give in she will think it is a game. I also recomend getting her mind onto something else - quickly. Turn her attention to another toy or a coloring book, or put a childrens CD on and let her dance - she will soon forget about it!

Re: BTDT Moms I have a ??? for you...

Thanks guys - for the past 11 months Emma has been the picture perfect infant and now she is becoming independent with her own mind... I dont know if I can take it I want to do the right thing and make her nicely adjusted and happy and not spoiled and rotten like the kids that throw tantrums in the middle of the store kicking and screaming because she cant have a toy.

Re: BTDT Moms I have a ??? for you...

My mother definitely speaks the consistency message, if she says no she means no. My baby is going to hate going to her house. You do have to set limits or then its a free for all. If you say no to the stove, iron etc, you cannot then turn around tomorrow and say yes. I wish you the best. The tantrum, spoiled, bratty kids scares me immensly.
