BTDT moms-Solids

What month did you start? Lyla will be 5 months on the 12th, and I'm anxious to start her now. She has her next Drs appt this week, so I'll about it then, but I was thinking of trying cereal tonight! However, I have lots of food allergies, and am pretty much exclusively bfding, so they say you can wait until 6 months in this case.

The other thing is that since we haven't given her a bottle in a few weeks, she isn't taking it so easily. That's why we decided that this week Peter is going to try harder to get her to take a bottle from him every evening. I bought a 3 months + sippy cup from Avent that has a rubbery top, and I thought I'd try that too. But, I guess I can't do solids, try the bottle and the sippy cup all at once, so I'm not sure which to do first

We started JA on cereal at 3m if I remember correctly. It was January, and he was born in Oct. Funny, now I consider solids to be 'table foods'...
It really varies with Dr's opinions.
Im not sure about which order to try things for your case. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

We started feeding Emma stage 1 foods at 4 1/2 months. Every now and then she would get 1/2 a jar or so of applesause. FH was insistant that she could handle it. I wasnt in the mood to argue. You just have to start off slow. One food at a time to watch for allergies.

Emma never took a bottle and at 5 months she started drinking from a sippy. Do the sippys you have have handles?? They make is SO much easier.

I say try cereal mixed with some breastmilk tonight. watch for reactions then in a few days introduce the sippy with water or breast milk.

Good luck, TAKE MANY PICTURES!

I must have had a conservative pediatrician b/c I did not start Paul on solids until he was 5 months old! I probably could've started at 4 months, but we accidentally skipped that month's visit (don't ask - it had to do with our move across the country!)

That said, I know a lot of Moms who give cereal to their kids much earlier b/c they put it in the child's bottle. I simply didn't believe in doing that, so Paul waited until it was time to eat with a spoon.

ETA: I agree with Karen - skip the bottle altogether and go straight to the sippy cup! There's no reason Lyla HAS to drink from a bottle, so you might as well save yourself at least ONE headache!

Lyla had rice cereal today! I mixed it with breast milk, and she seemed to enjoy it a lot! She even started smiling and laughing, it was SO cute! I'm so happy that she didn't hate it, I guess she is ready. I fed her in her bouncer seat, and since it's reclined, it worked perfectly.

We tried the bottle again, and I guess since Peter gave it to her she did better than when I tried 2 days ago. She only took 1/2 ounce, but I guess that's something.

So, I think I have to stick with one new (not that a bottle was new, but it's being reintroduced after a few weeks) thing this week, I think it's going to be the cereal since it's fun! I'll post pictures soon.

If you have alot of food allergies, I'd ask the pediatrician before getting her started just to be safe. I'm glad she likes it though, I remember how messy Luke was, he loved to put his fingers in his mouth for the multi-sensation appreciation of the meal. It's so cute seeing their face enjoying a new flavor.
