Is it even possible to have a wedding for $20,000 on Long Island? Has anyone who is working within that price range been able to find any good deals without sacrificing the overall ambiance of the ceremony and reception?

Re: Budget
you can get the best price per plate in the off-peak season (typically Nov-Mar). Day weddings and Sunday weddings are also an easy way to save $$ per plate. How many guests do you think you will have?

Re: Budget
How many people do you plan on inviting?
It's def. doable you just have to be reasonable. Deceide what you really want/what really matters and cut corners on places where you can. For me..photography is really important but flowers don't really mean too much so the first step for me was writting a budget. I plan to have about 100-120 people ..remember the smaller you keep it the more do-able it is because you spend extra on the obvious like dinners, but then you have to remember more people = more tables = more centerpieces, favors..etc..
Here is a rough budget of mine: RH = 10,000 Photographer = 3500 Flowers = 800 Church = 500 DJ = 1500 Limos = 1500 Gfits & Favors = 1000 Hair & makeup = 500 Invitations = 300 Honeymoon = 4000 RD = 600 Wedding Band = 250 (fh wants something simple and I'm going to use my grandmothers)
So that roughly comes out to $25000, and 4000 of it is the honeymoon..so I hope that gives you an idea...HTH!

Re: Budget
I'm also in your budget range, and it definitely depends on how many people you are planning on having. We are only having 100-125 and are doing a Saturday day wedding hopefully. Definitely check out the Lessings properties like Tall Grass CC and Timberpoint. They are beautiful and their prices are VERY reasonable. Also as previous posters stated, the time of year makes a big difference. Im hoping for a Sept date, but if that doesn't work out in our budget I am going to go for Nov. Jan-March are least expensive and day weddings are much cheaper than nights. You can also do things like candle CP's instead of flowers, lots of DIY and cut corners on a lot of little extras that aren't necessary. HTH!

Re: Budget
im in that budget range (hopefully lower though...wishful thinking) and im planning on having a lot of diy projects. Invitations can be made on the computer (the kits are like 30.00 at AC Moore, Target, etc...), keep your guest list down to 100-125, look into candle CP (i think someone said that already) and keep it on a friday or sunday day...we are doing a sunday brunch w/ abt. 100 ppl...im not having a dj at the RH--which will prob. be a restaruant or something small(just some music playing in the background), im also not doing limos for everyone-just an old car for me and FH, and im looking into hiring an amature photog...my sister is in college for photography and im considering going that route...

Re: Budget
Brentwood Country Club definitey has great packages that can keep you in your budget.
It can be done, but I think the most important thing is really sit down and decide what is really, truly important to you and make sure you are realistic in what you WANT and what you NEED.
The most important things to us were the church and the pictures. We're having a Saturday brunch buffet and we're keeping the guest list to under 100 people. I'm not having a bridal party so that cuts down on flowers and we're just having one limo for us.

Re: Budget
I think it is doable! My budget is less than that and I will make it happen somehow. We are getting married at the Thatched Cottage during the day on a Saturday in March. We are going to try to cut corners with DIY projects, like centerpieces. I should probably do my own invitations. I had found one I really liked for a reasonable price but after seeing what other people are writing, I could probably do it for cheaper on my own. We are also considering not doing the whole limo thing and just renting a nice car. I am still unsure about that. We have a pretty large BP and I don't know what to do about that! Well, good luck! I am listening for suggestions as well!

Re: Budget
i think you can do it.....you are planning for 09 so you have time to look around at lots of vendors to get the best price/most for your money......i think you can have a totally gorgeous wedding within that budget
maybe you can go on BHB or the 07 boards and ask if any brides with your budget posted a review - so you can check out some of their vendors and see how nice everything is......if its done right your wedding will look like a million bucks!

Re: Budget
You can do it, you just have to do a lot of planning and research. You will get a lot of great ideas from here. I dont plan on spending more than 25,000 and I am staying under that no problems. Also consider some DIY projects

Re: Budget
Absolutely, you just need to be realistic. You have to pick an off-peak season/day/time and cut out extras like VH. Go with a DJ as opposed to a band, and scrap extras like plasma screens and lighting effects. Shop around for a dress and pick a reasonable price tag. Cut out limos if getting married at the RH, or get only 2 for the BP. Pick inexpensive and in-season flowers with low CPs or flower-less CPs. These are just a few ideas, but it can definitely be done!
