I know we're 2 years out, but it's never too early to have a budget right? Am I the only one who is psycho with a planned and set budget?

Re: Budget
We planned a budget when we first got engaged.. But after booking everything we are over budget by $2,000 and still growing. Guess our budget wasn't realistic for a NY wedding. And the worst part is, most of our vendors are family friends and we are getting discounts, so it's scary!

Re: Budget
We've set a budget but the problem is, I have no idea what things cost! I grew up on LI but I'm in the military so I haven't lived at home in years and have no idea what is a 'good' price. In fact, I'm planning the whole wedding from overseas and FH won't even be with me until next year!
I think a budget is something you'll need to keep in mind from the very beginning to the end.

Re: Budget
Not psycho at all!!! I wish I was that organized!
I haven't set up a budget really because I have no clue what things are going to cost other than my RH but as soon as I start pricing things out its budget time!

Re: Budget
Making a budget was kinda hard bc we r paying as we go ..dnt have the money saved prior. So basically as we book n figure out wat stuff costs we r making a plan/budget of how much to save... 4 the rh, we calc the amt based on the min guar. Its hard to no wat r financial situation will b bc im in school n hopefully b makin more money in a yr when I got my masters

Re: Budget
Good idea to budget early! I have had a budget set up for a while. We booked the RH and Church... so far we are within budget, but I am sure we will go over budget with flowers and photo/video

Re: Budget
I'm definitely budgeting the RH based on the min. guar. I haven't picked my hall yet, but I know I don't want to spend more than 90-95pp (WM wants 110 in the summer on a Friday ) and I don't want more than 150 to guarantee. I already know the vendors I'm using for photo/video/dj, and the package is around 6k. I already priced limos, flowers and what I want to spend on favors and gifts. I have spreadsheets coming out of my ears!!! We're also paying as we go so sticking to the budget is a must!

Re: Budget
I feel that the budget is DEFINITELY something all couples should have when planning a wedding, unless, money is absolutely no object, and in that case run wild. Even though we are 2 years away, I can already see how fast it is just to get wrapped up in the moment when you see something you love and 'HAVE TO HAVE IT.' But alot of times these things are ridiculously overpriced and you wind up not thinking in REAL dollars but in WEDDING dollars.... ie: difference between a Lincoln Strech, Navigator, Escalade, Hummer, Infinity Limos.... they all provide the same exact service... Transportation, but some people are willing to spend an extra $600 for an SUV... If you set up a budget and have a bit of wiggle room than go for it, but if you are going to now be over I would say you need to rethink things. Yes this is going to be the BEST day in all of our lives but we shouldn't go broke trying to pay for it!!! Its 8:30 on Sat morning so I hope I am making sense lol

Re: Budget
Currently I'm in Greenland but FH lives in Washington. He's only been on LI for 4 days when we picked out the reception location. We're expecting to both move to Germany next year, so at least we'll both be planning together at that point.
Where are you?

FH and I didn't really have a budget, we just knew what we could afford and what we couldn't. It has worked out perfectly for us.

Re: Budget
It's not too early whatsoever.. I am more then likely going to become a 2012 brides which is why I lurk these boards more often. My parents too won't be paying for our wedding which is why I haven't begun to look @ RH and stuff because I don't know I want to have the money in my hand if that makes any sense. I don't want to be in any debt after this wedding. I want what I am able to afford and the rest well I will just have to sacrifice. You ladies sound more flexible then I am LOL I only want to pay $75 pp including taxes @ the end of the day I'm only 22 and I really want my day to be special but I can't afford extravagant @ the moment..

Re: Budget
I pushed back 2 years, need to be financially comfortable to do everything I want. I was drowning trying to do it in a year. Now, I have 2! I actually pushed back for other reasons but now see what a good idea it was and everything happens for a reason. But you can still hang out on the 2011 board, it will help alot.
