Today was going well, we had graduation practice, went out to lunch and the rest of the day no kids. On our way down to meet in the auditorium, without warning, I see one of the other 5th grade teachers crying. I knew immediately what was about to happen. The state cut our schools budget by $900,000. I think there were between 9 - 11 teachers excessed in our school. Not a good day.

I'm so sorry! There are a lot of teachers on here, maybe someone can help you.
If it makes you feel any better I have to find a new job also. I think my compnay is going bankrupt

I'm so sorry to hear this. It is amazing what changes so many schools are going through b/c of the budgets. My mother's school district's budget didn't pass and she is seeing so many people get cut! You will find something else! Good Luck!

I work for the Board too. I wish I could tell you to come to my school; it's in the So. Bronx but it's a good school. Or it was- TPTB decided to 'restructure' and come September there will be 3 schools in the builing. I kept my position because of senority, but more than half the staff was excessed. I feel your pain. Good luck. I hope you end up in a decent school.

my budget failed too....but thankfully, i still have a job. i doubt school will be very much fun next year though with all of the fighting over the budget though

it stinks- east meadow had over 70 teachers excessed two years ago because of the budget- yet they had plenty of money to extend the buildings and create more classrooms- for who? they let go of 70 teachers!!!!
