When we first realized what it was going to cost, I wanted to have a destination wedding just so we could get married and not have to wait over a year to save all the $$. But when we sat down and looked at everything we realized if we saved as much as we could over a year and a half we could have a beautiful wedding. I am glad we decided to have it here although we are over what I thought it was going to cost

Re: Budget question
I though about $30,000 but God knows where we would get that money in such a short amount of time. Luckily FIL's are paying for the RH so now we only need about $15,000 (not including the HM which is about another $10,000).

Re: Budget question
We amazingly came in right on target with what we originally budgeted for. But I was very particular with keeping track of the 'extras'.

Re: Budget question
We budgeted $40k - which was realistic based on the size of our wedding. It was a nice surprise that we came in $3k under which included our RH and vendors.
The $40k was not part of our 'extra's budget:
Invites Dress Tux HM etc.......
DH and I paid for those extra items, our parents paid for the main items.

Re: Budget question
I'll be honest with you.. We didn't have a budget. Our plan was to just save as much as we possibly can & see how it goes.. We had an idea of how much everything would end up costing because we have been to a bunch of weddings and from the stories we heard , we had a pretty good idea of what we were in for and how much our wedding was going to cost us. When all is said & done.. We are looking at about $50,000- for everything. We are having a failry large wedding and are getting alot of 'extras' from all of our vendors. Thank GOD we had a long engagement because we are paying for everything ourselves.
We never thought in a million years that we would be able to save up enough money for a wedding. We weren't the saving type. But let me tell you.. our mindset totally changed the minute the ring went on my finger- I dont even want to spend any money unless it it wedding related (or new apartment related) It is possible to save for a wedding.. we are living proof that it can be done.

OMG Janie!! well said!!!! exactly our situation!!!! but our budget is 'slightly' higher....it took us 13 years to get married, so that is why...

Re: Budget question
When we first started discussing weddings we came up with a number that we thought was realistic, and then calculated how much $$ from each paycheck we could afford to put aside, and how many paychecks it would take to get us to our target budget, then we set a date. We then broked down the big budget number into little pieces for each vendor. So far, so good.

When we first talked about having the wedding we set the budget around $20,000. Now its out of control. Looking more like $30,000 at this point. FH saw this new number and almost hit the floor but it is what it is. When we first started planning I said are you sure this is what you want, all this money for one day he said yes so here we go...
we were the same way... thought 20-25 to begin but not we're looking at 30k , maybe a lil more w/honeymoon
