My FH and I have been pricing out vendors for the past couple of weeks and we've been pretty shocked on how much everything is! Of course we're looking for the best of everything and thats why its so expensive but right now our budget is coming in between 50K and 55K.
Is that a totally crazy budget? Every website I'm checking it has people with a 25K budget and I am paying more than that for my hall alone!
So roughly heres a breakdown on where we are at so far:
Hall: $28K DJ: $5,500 (for the whole top of the line package) Video and Photo: $7,000
Are you guys coming across some of the same prices?
Thanks for helping me.

Re: Budget Question...Please Help!!
first of all dont pay attention to those websites! they are national websites - which means NOT NEW YORK
NY weddings are RIDICULOUS (in a good way) compared to almost anywhere else in the country!
i have no idea how much my RH is and i dont feel like doing hte math until i have to ! but 28K sounds reasonable!
photos/video about 5K
DJ about 2K
so you are not really far off but you are just picking higher end stuff!
i am also getting married in the off season so that helps too!
don't stress just try to budget according to your financial ability and you will be fine!!
GOOD LUCK!

Re: Budget Question...Please Help!!
Honestly I think when people say their wedding will be $25K they probably just got engaged and haven't went vendor shopping yet...or they don't live in NY. That's what I originally said I wanted to spend after I got engaged until I went to the first place and got a big wake up call Your hall is a great price then you have a lot of expenses after just the hall so 50K is average I'd say

Re: Budget Question...Please Help!!
Iti is possible to have a wedding on LI on a budget. My FH and I are spending 20K TOTAL: that means everything: HALL, photo/video, limo, flowers, invite, honeymoon, etc. etc. it is possible. girls on LI get sucked into these vendors and that capitalize on it. you have to be willing to negiotiate, have your wedding on an off-time (I am having a Sat. morning wedding in February) and do your research. all these vendors on here now we all talk about them and they get plenty of business. there are quality vendors that are out there who will work with you. i got my photo and video for $3500.00 and my band for $2300.00. if you get sucked into the 'wedding game' you will pay.
FM if anyone needs help. i am on a budget and i've been able to stick to it even here on LI!

Re: Budget Question...Please Help!!
p.s. i am having almost 200 guests and i am very happy with all of my vendors... all of them are experienced and of high quality. it is possible!
but based on what most weddings go for, yes, i would say 50K is above average in terms of price. me, i would never waste that much money on one day, but to each is one. i also couldn't spend that because i don't have it!

We had the same assumption when we first got engaged....25K. Yea right. HAHAHA. When you start looking for vendors that becomes history.

I agree. It is possible to have your wedding on a budget less than 50K. For me that's a lot of money for one day too. I chose a holiday weekend for my date. July 3rd that year is a Thursday and the next day is a holiday so it is just like having a Friday wedding. You have to figure out ways to save some money. I did plan for one second to get married on a Sat. night...way too much money!!! It's at least $30-$40 more expensive a plate for a Sat. night!

it can also depend on what month, day and how many people you are having.

not including the HM, my wedding is going to be about $25K - including hall, dj, flowers, limo, favors, etc. im getting married on a sunday nite in july with about 180 guests...and ive done my vendor shopping! and live in NY! its definitely doable - you just have to do your research.

Re: Budget Question...Please Help!!
search the 06 boards and 07 boards - there were a bunch of wedding cost polls recently, and i would say a majority of brides are paying under $30k -
it all depends on what day of the week/time of year, etc.
i didnt choose all LIW vendors either - there are more vendors out there!
