Budgeting Questions

Hey ladies...so my FH and I are planning on sitting down this weekend to discuss our budget in relation to everything other than the RH. Since I really have no idea where to begin, I was hoping you guys might be able to share your thoughts on good pricing for such things as:

Photography (w/ or w/o video)
Limos
Favors
DJ
Flowers (centerpieces and bouquets)

Please free to add anything else you can think of!

Thanks and hope everyone has a great weekend!

Re: Budgeting Questions

It's hard to say how much you 'should' spend on things. I was clueless when we started planning. We looked at how much money we had/wanted to spend on the wedding, minus the cost of the hall (biggest expense) and then decided how much we would spend on each vendor from what was left over. For example flowers were least important to me, so that budget was the smallest. I wanted to provide a shuttle for my guests from hotel to RH and back, so that budget was larger. Do you want/need all the extras from the DJ? budget with and without them to see the diifference.
Then I called and priced everyone!! I also haggled quite a bit to get the prices down, ad had to make some concessions on some things too (but not many).
Doing it this way we are slightly over budget but nothing crazy. And don't forget to budget tips!!

Re: Budgeting Questions

Maybe add Dress, Hair/Make-Up, alterations, shoes, veil, accessories, Tuxedo, Gifts for the bridal party, If you are paying for ring bearer/flower girl things, marriage fees, honeymoon, cake topper, card box, rings, ceremony things, champagen fluts, cake servers, guest books, invitations, save the dates, and a cushion for misc. expenses??

I'm not sure how much you are paying for.. and I can't think of anything else.

It all depends what you want, what you are willing to pay, where you are willing to sacrifice, etc.

FH and I are budgeting as well. We alloted about 35,000 for the wedding. We are going over only a little bit but that is because of all the tips we are going to have to give to our vendors. Here are my prices for what you mentioned:

3 parent albums (25 pics each)

enlargements
thank you cards

Limos: $500
Favors - we are doing a donation probably of $300-$500.. gotta see where our budget is
DJ - $2600 INCLUDES:
String Trio for ceremony
cocktail hr music
light truss
1 dj, 1 mc and 1 percussionist for 4.5 hr reception

Having a slight panic attack here!!! I guess you don't realize all the little things until you start making a list!

Also, dumb question - what is a cake server needed for???

Re: Budgeting Questions

Maybe try using a website with a budgeter...we used wedding wire. You type in the total amount you have (like someone else said) and then it spreads it out for you over all the different items. Then if you want to remove or add to specific things you can, but it gives you a good starting point.

Re: Budgeting Questions

Here is how we budgetted, though it will vary from person to person based on how important each vendor is to you:

Photography (without video): $3500
Limos (and Coach Bus Transportation): $2500
Favors: $2.5 per person so roughly $400
DJ (with lighting): $4000
Flowers (centerpieces and bouquets): $2500

Thanks! I will try that out later!
