Okay we are on a tight budget becuase we are paying for the whole wedding by ourselves. First off, we took March and had a 2 year engagment becuase it will give us time to save $ and get the 2002 prices. I did a lot of shopping around and our wedding will look like we spent way over 50,000 and it is costing about 18,000. You have to get the best value for your money , book early, and know when to stop with the outrageous extras. To me I did not want to spend 5,000 on a dress, I went to Estelles and got a designer wedding gown for 700.00! I looked a little further out on the island for the DJ and photographers. I did not want to go with big names like the house vendors. If you want to know more FM mail me, I will try to help you if I can.

P.S. a good book is-Bridal Bargains By Denise and Alan Fields. I highly recommend it.

Our families are helping us to pay for the wedding but we are still responsible for about half. We are getting married at NYBG and are still able to bring it in for under 20,000. It can be done. If you have a tight budget you just have to make choices about what is important to you.

Budgets are a VERY individual thing. What one person calls a 'great price' another person calls too expensive. YOU are the only one who can decide how much you can afford for each item. I will say that you should know your priorities. Some brides think favors are very, very important and spend a ton on them, others want thousands of dollars in flowers while others think spending $500 on a dress is just fine. For me, photography was my TOP priority. I knew that my photos would be around a lot longer than anything else. Favors were not my top priority and I spent only $300 on them. During the planning I found myself 'having' to have a calligrapher create custom invitations and address all my envelopes. Some girls think that is a waste of money, but for me it was really important.
The winter will save you some money in some areas. But your dress price, for instance, will not really be affected at all by season.
You can get married for $100 at City Hall or $1,000,000 at the Plaza- and everything in between.
