buffet is where they usally have sternos set up. stations are where they do the carving, or make sushi, or have all the pasta...

OH---HUGE difference. A 'buffet' is when there are only one or two long tables with the food lined up in a row---(this causes your guests to have to line up in a row in order to get food--causing a delay to food--causing upset guests)

Stations are individually set up and placed around a room or designated area......there can be a 'carving station' where just the ham or turkey is carved and served....then there's another station with say, a cheese platter with different meats like pepperoni, then maybe a Sushi station (my personal favorite!!), and a pasta station. All of these are seperated, giving the guests room to move around and choose freely what food they want to put on their plate without waiting on a long line.

STATIONS ARE THE BEST IDEA EVER!!!!

Sorry, I'm a big fan of food and hate having to wait in line.

HOWEVER, if it's a small party (less than 100)---it may be feasible to serve food in a buffet fashion...but they'll still have to wait a little bit.

I wasn't doing a buffet anyway. My god that would be a disaster! We are having CH and sitdown. I just wanted to know the real difference.
Thanks

Isn't your cocktail hour a buffet, aren't you having stations then?

See my cocktail hour is set up differntly I think than the usual ones, thats why I was a bit confused between the difference. I am having stations at my CH. Have you been to CH at Russo's??? It's like set up seems to be one long room.

I think what she means is that she's not having a 'Buffet Dinner' for the reception dinner. The cocktail hour is probably 'stations' set up around the cocktail room......rather than a 'Buffet-style' cocktail hour (where the cocktail foods are lined up on one or two long tables --causing the same effect as stated above guests!!)

Exactly...this is the newest thing in cocktail hours.....'cocktail stations'

Haven't been to Russo's, but went to a wedding locally recently which did this....and we insisted on having it at our hall (turns out that's all they do anyway!!)

I was trying desperately to put up some pics.....but I couldn't get them resized the right way (I'm on my laptop...not the desk computer with all the good quick programs...) Oh well.....you've got the idea and hopefully the answer now.
