Bummed to say the least

Bummed to say the least

So my cousin who is one of my bridesmaids goes to school in Albany. She just told me of her worries about being able to come to my wedding, let alone be a bridesmaid. My wedding is Sun, April 28, and finals for her have been early May. She is worried bout not having understanding professors who would not work with her with rescheduling if need be. It's not that she thinks its huge responsibility, its the traveling back and forth and if she has a Monday morning final.... GRRR

Very upset by this!

And of course I tried to convince her that professors are normally good with working with you if you give them enough notice, but that didn't work. She doesn't want me to depend on her just in case she can't make it work.

Is your wedding in the day or at night? Maybe if she has a final the next day she can possibly take it the week before? There's nothing that you can really do to help the situation. This is up to your cousin to figure out herself. Don't stress about it too much. There are far worse things that could be happening.

At least she is being responsible and giving you a heads up. Of course you are bummed but I think in this case it's better to think worst case scenario then just fly with it. The semester starts in January so she can always be a late edition or exit!

its an evening wedding. ending bout 10ish. but its the drive back upstate that worries her. I told her bout rescheduling, but she worries cause some professors at her school have reputations for not working with the students. i know there are worst things that can happen, but it really meant a lot to have her in the party, AND it was very difficult to figure out those females who i am closest to in order to ask them. As it is I was short 2 girls! At this point its gonna look weird with the way they are outnumbered...

Aww I'm sorry, that's really a bummer Hopefully it'll work out, I'm sure everything will be awesome and you won't have to stress about it. When we were picking the RH the dates available were really stressing me out because it seems like it can never be perfect.

exactly! it shows she's thinking of you and trying to keep you in the loop - I've seen & even been a part of weddings where girls drop out without saying anything to the bride....not fun. Hopefully it works out, there are a lot of great professors out there, but each one has different policies so you never know.

I'm so sorry to hear this. It's sad when you want someone to share in your special day and they aren't able to.

I was in Grad School when my older sister got married in AZ. I told all of my professors at the beginning of the semester about my plans. They were very understanding! I don't remember if I missed any tests, but I know that they gave me extra time to complete a project. I think I took a full week off to travel to AZ.

I hope it all works out.

It sounds like she's really bummed about not being apart of it and is torn. Because on the one hand, her current responsibility is bring a student and the other hand is her desire to be there for you.

I completely understand. I had asked 2 people to be MOH and they bailed on me. One of them didn't even contact me back after she said she needed time to think about even being a bridesmaid. So I'm pretty bummed since she is a really great friend. Her monthly trips were more important than being there for me for 1 day.

Re: Bummed to say the least

Thats exactly it. I know she is trying to be responsible and looking out for me. And I am so glad that she gave me a heads up bout the worries..... I just think that its something that really isn't that big a deal to get around. I know that I was able to get all my professors to change my finals one year and fit them all into 2 days so I could go to a conference in NC!

As for being a late addition, it doesn't really seem feasible being that I am not going with a dress from a salon or anything. I am having a renfaire vendor who specializes in these outfits make them and give me a group discount (I need 5 of them).

I feel bad bout being bummed and venting about this when its so minor compared to some of the things you girls are going thru! Thanks for the support and kind words.

If it doesn't feel minor to you, don't worry about venting! Everyone gets to a point in this process where something, even something little, gets completely overwhelming
