Bumper Confusion!

According to SIDS experts you shouldn't use bumpers because of the suffocation risk. I was reading the American Academy of Pediatrics book called 'Caring for your baby and young child : birth to age 5' and they recommend using bumpers until the baby can stand up in the crib.

Ok, which advice to I follow?

I keep reading this topic everywhere
luckily my son is like me....he doesn't move when he is sleeping...so I kept the bumpers in.
He is 8 1/2 months now....so Im not so worried about SIDS so much anymore....Ive read that it usually occurs in babies less than 4 months old

I kept them in, but when she was about 6 months she started pulling at them and by the morning they would be loose no matter how tight I tied them, so now they're off.

Re: Bumper Confusion!

funny you brought this up. i have been going threw the same thoughts. my son is now 6 months old and rolls over in his sleep. this drives me nuts since he has been on his back since birth. he rolls over and i find him up against the bumpers with his head turned away from them. i am constantly moving him. i stopped flipping him back over to his back because he would just roll right over again. i spoke to the dr. about all of this and he said he has never heard of anything bad with bumpers and sids and as long as the baby has control of their head they will be able to move away. its just so nerve wracking!!
