Bush has hit a new low today...is that even possible?

Original post by michele31

He wants a constituational amendement on outlawing gay marriage...WTF? We are AT WAR!!! our jobless rate is one of the highest in years, children have no healthcare and all he can do is worry about 2 people who love each other who want to get married? And he has the gall to say that he needs to protect the welfare of children? Okay, Bush how about look at the foster care system in our country? how about get new books for our kids in school? how about worry that children are homeless, abused, hungry?

I guess he needs to make a few American happy since he cannot fix any of the REAL problems!

I would like to say that I am for same sex marriages however, I am not for bigamy, polygamy or cat-dog unions I don't think that extending marital rights to homosexuals obliterates the line completely.

AHhhhhhhhh another good point. DItto btw. But what about people who willingly participates in bigamy. Anybody catch that guy on msnbc with 7 wives or something like that????? They are all grown adults who want to share in this type of relationship, why can't they????????

more stirring

This is exactly what I was trying to say. Thank you for clarifying!!

It's strange how much this argument is based on wording - there are many people out there that wouldn't mind gay 'UNIONS' but gay 'MARRIAGE' is totally out of the question. They're the same thing! I don't think anyone is saying that churches should have to recognize these marriages/unions - but these people should have the same LEGAL rights that other married couples do (with regards to inheriting/medical decisions etc)

Agree!!! in olden times, marriage was not about religion but rather a joining of properties, whether countries or counties...it is still about more of a legal thing than a religious thing so i don't understand how religion even effects it! my uncle is gay and in a commited relationship and if something happens to his partner, my uncle is f@#$%d b/c he isn't straight. wtf???
and don't get me started about abortion! so you take that right away, but guess what...it won't stop abortion from happening...women will just do it in their bathrooms with a wire hanger and a can of lysol...yeah, that sounds like a winning idea! so bush...would you encourage barbara and jenna to go that route? oh, that's right...your daughters are proper little virgins! sorry, but i am outraged at the rights that americans will be losing very quickly!

For some people, marriage is a religious sacrament.

Can't your uncle make a will?

I agree that banning abortion will not stop it from happening, but that doesn't make it right. Other crimes are illegal, and they still happen. Should we legalize everything?

I agree, and the law in California does not permit homosexual marriage. I have not heard of anyone being arrested who is performing homosexual marriages.

IMHO...b/c its in San Francisco...a city with a large outspoken gay population...the mayor is for same sex marriages - so he is not going to order arrests...

the only option is national guard and that opens up a whole can of worms...

This brings up an interesting point...the reason that same sex marriages are desired is legal rights, inheritance, etc

bigomy would bring up some hard questions to answer - which wife gets custody of kids...property rights, life insurance policy? is eligible for SS benefits of the deceased...

as much as they claim the women are into it...I think this is pushing it...i think the society where this happens demands a submissive role of the woman and I think most women are not happy with the situation - but say they are out of fear of their husbands or their community..

I think you ladies are missing the point...

Bush, Clinton, etc. can do NOTHING without the support of Congress, etc. You seem to be buying into this whole 'dictatorship' notion and the government doesn't work that way.

you are right...but they do have the ear of many congresspeople...

Yeah, but with the party lines split in both the house and congress (there isn't a huge majority lead in either), the chances of anything tangible passing for either subject is pretty minimal (IMO).

Exactly. I didn't mention anything about the ban, because I don't think it will ever happen. How old is the Consitition and how many amendments do we have? It is very difficult to pass an amendment. Almost all of the Amendments expand individual rights and limit the power of the government. The only one that I can think off that didn't (no alcohol) was overturned. I have a hard time believing that anything like this can be pushed through Congress, even if we have a Republican president and a Republican majority in Congress.

I've voiced my opinion several times on this 'hot ' topic and will do so again...

union, marriage...call it whatever you want 2 consenting adults (yes only 2) should be able to marry. Why the hell not?
Who are we to judge 2 women or 2 men who have fallen in love....
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE!!!!!!

Be open minded...remember what love is...remember what constitutes a union. Let them be acknowledged legally.

If marriage should only be recognized in religion then anyone NOT married in a religious building is then not a recognized?

sorry. marriage is a contract between two people. we all deserve to enter into that contract.

So what does that mean? Does the government then decide to decide how these women should choose to live their lives? If they want to be submissive why shouldn't they be? Their are tons of submissive women in heterosexual relationship also.

you're right - I wasn't complete

if the adults are consenting...let them be...my MO...government get out of our lives

it makes me think that countries like Mexico have the right idea for a 6 year - one term president...long enough to do something with the time...but not able to be reelected and swayed by all the special interest - too many politicians are just voting, proposing to get reelected...not doing whats best for their constituents
