Business Advice Needed

Can someone outline the basics for me when it comes to starting a business. My husband would like to start working for himself in construction and DBA his company name. I bought a Do-It-Yourself Small Business Kit, but I want to make sure that I am on the right track.

I know that I have to check the Federal/state database for the name he wants to make sure it is registered...but in construction would he be a LLC (limited liability company???) Any other tips/advice would be *greatly* appreciated!!

Since construction is a fairly complex business in terms of insurance needs, etc.. you probably want to hire a laywer to help you set it up. If nto done properly and there is a lawsuit, someone can take away your personal possessions.

Short of that, contact the Small Business Association. They should be able to give you a lot of help for free.

We have already contacted an agent involving the insurance needs. I don't remember exactly, but the agent did tell my husband what he would need.
