bustle

so i know that it depends on how many points and what style bustle you get but what is an average price to pay? my mother told me that a friend of hers said when her daughter was married the bustle and alterations were almost as much as her gown was. i thought that sounds crazy unless her dress was like 500 bucks. i feel like i should know more about this wedding stuff

Re: bustle

it really depends on how elaborate your bustle is. some places can charge as much as $20-25 per point on a bustle!! now if you have a 15 point bustle that comes out to $375!!!

but honestly, its not as common to have to pay THAT much for it. just depends on your seamstress. i paid $250 for alterations and bustle. (my gown had a french bustle)

is your dress shop altering your gown?

ETA: here's a pic of my gown pre-bustle:

and after bustle:

Re: bustle

I dont want to get my dress altered where i got it from-ive heard bad things about their alterations but it just so happens that i found my dream gown there so now i have to bring it elsewhere and dont want to get ripped off.

My alterations are capped @ 200.00. I think my bustle is $7 per point for a regular bustle and $10 per point for a french.

Contact Phyllis at Bridal Elegance. I didn't buy my dress from her....but she took my gown anyway and did an AMAZING job on it! She's rather reasonable.

Re: bustle

I'm confused whats the difference between the 2? And what is a point? Is that where the train ties or hooks to the skirt?

Re: bustle

alterations is where you make the dress fit properly and the bustle is lifting up the train for during the reception.

French or 'under bustle' , you lift the skirt up and there are a bunch of ties that you tie together and the skirt is pulled up under the skirt:

a regular or over bustle pulls the skirt up, usually from the center and hooks on a button or some sort:

My alterations are capped also. I think most places charge about 10 per point, give or take a couple of dollars and usually this isnt included in your alteration cap
