Bustle instead of detachable train

Bustle instead of detachable train

So I always thought a detachable train was a must for the gown I would call my own...

However, I'm in love with a gown that bustles instead. One of my BM's recently told me that bustles are a pain and the part that hooks to the dress is not always sturdy or strong enough to hold through the night. She gave an example of when her friend got married someone stepped on her dress and ripped the bustle right out... fortunately my friend just had a baby and had diaper pins... which held up the girl's bustle the rest of the night.

So I'm going to invest in diaper pins...

Seriously, anyone else have any trouble with a bustled train? Anyone really love the bustled train and would choose it over a detachable? I still think detachable is best (dress is lighter too once it's removed), but I love my dress regardless...

my bustle held up the entire night and is still up in the dress bag! it was a pick up bustle with ties instead of hooks or buttons.

pics in my album. i love the way a bustle looks and would have been very sad if i didn't have one

I always wanted a detachable train too, but I ended up getting a dress with a semicathedral train! My bustle was fine. I had my alteratiosn done at Lillette's where I bought the dress. My bridal attendants at Jericho Terrace commented on how nice and sturdy my bustle ties were. I had no problems at all with my bustle. It stayed the whole night, and I do remember people accidentally stepping on my dress.

All of my cousins and friends have had bustles and no one has had a problem.

The only thing that ever went wrong with one of their bustles was:

My cousin G her mom was the only one that of the was taught how the dress bustles. The day of the wedding my Aunt forgot her glasses and couldn't see, so the bustle was done incorrectly and it didn't look very nice..

I am bringing four people with me, so I a few people know how it is supposed to go.

I cannot believe that people step on Bride's dresses!!! Don't they know the dresses are thousands of dollars?????? I'd honestly probably back slap anyone who stepped on me or my dress at my wedding

It happened to me. Within the first 30 seconds of the very first fast song...my bustle was stepped on. Granted...I have NO CLUE why it was altered to slightly drag on the floor ...

Then...for TWOTY...DH stepped on it

My bustle never budged an inch. It was up off the floor, no one stepped on it. Its still bustled in its back in my room at my parents house. I think the ties definitely hold better than the hooks.

my dress fell constantly....when i sat down, when i stood up, when i walked...when the 165 people stepped on it 5 times each....i spent at least an hour having girls pin it up for me. in reality, i've started offering up the advice of having the train removed (cut off) from the very beginning (after purchasing the gown) and not bothering at all with it...it was such a pain...and unfortunately, my dress had too much fabric for me to just leave it or carry it...so constant pinning was a must.

When I was shopping around for my dress I also wanted a detachable train, however like you I fell in love with my dress that has a train that will need to be bustled. I have no fear that it will be ok throughout the night, and if the hooks should break I will definitely have pins in my bridal suite, so it will be ok no matter what.

Prepare yourself girls!! DH was stepping on mine all night --I could have killed him!!
I think it's unavoidable....just make sure you tell your new dh to walk in front of you at all times!

My bustle was tied, and was fine the whole night. I did not even know it was there. It also took very little time (during the Bp dance) to complete.

I had a detachable train and I am so glad I did. It was one less worry. I even loved seeing my train in the bridal suite after the ceremony! One reason I knew that this was the dress for me was because it was not missing any of the things I preferred. I highly recommend detachable train. However, not many dresses that are out now have them.

I also got a dress with a detachable train. I was open to both but feel in love with this one dress. I am really releived that I dont have to worry about a bustle and it breaking half way through the night.

Thanks for the advice... I'll keep those diaper pins nearby and keep FH in front of me.
