So today alone I've read at least 5 posts having to do with brides whose bustles broke because people accidentally stepped on them during the reception. I also was talking to my best friend/MOH about this because it happened at her wedding (her DH actually broke hers!).
So now I'm paranoid. Is there any way that seamstresses can do some kind of super-reinforced construction so the bustle won't break? What kinds of bustles are sturdiest? Starting fittings soon so I want to know in advance!
TIA!

Re: Bustles!
My seamstress (Phyllis) is sewing in 3 buttons (for the loop and hook), instead of the usual 1, so that way, if 1 button breaks I have 2 more for extra security.

My seamstress is butting in Hooks undeneath the dress. She says buttons are more likely to come undone.

honestly--bustles breaking is just something that happens to most brides! no matter HOW much you reinforce the dress---especially with a french bustle, there will be a litlte leftover that ppl WILL step on over and over and over again.
just make sure you have safety pins--my hall's bridal attendant had plenty, and it helped!
I was dead set against a satin train for this reason. I've never seen one that didn't break, and they look so heavy to carry around. I only want a thin, lace bustle.

Re: Bustles!
Instead of using hooks and buttons have the seamstress use ribbons. You tie the ribbons together...when someone steps on your dress (which WILL happen) they come untied. And you are able to re tie them. This happened to me a couple of times...but it stayed for all the dancing I did

Re: Bustles!
At my MOH's wedding I saw her DH step on one of the ribbons in her bustle as they were getting ready to walk back down the aisle. She actually sewed it back on herself in the bridal suite . Once it was tied up it stayed the whole night. The only thing I think I might tell my seamstress is to make them have some color on the ends because hers were white lace and they were such a pain to find!!! HTH
