Butter Cream vs. Whipped - FFIL Vent (kinda long)

So the in laws are hosting/paying for/organizing the engagement party - which i am so gratful for.

Last night I was at their home - we got the favors in order (mini wine bottles), then got the menu all figured out, picked out linens and all I had to do was comment on the cake.

FH and I agreed on the cake - the fillings and then we get to the frosting/cream situation. Whipped cream on a cake doesn't sit right w/ me - I also dont like the taste of the fresh kind. IMO that goes on ice cream, and pies and even fruit - not on a cake.

FH whet right for the whipped b/c he is really a 5 year old at heart - but i nicely said to him 'i know you love it - but think about a cake from the bakery or even wedding cake its normally butter cream - i think you are confusing the 2.' So in the end we agreeed - butter cream wins.

5 min later - I guess FFIL heard this convo, sits across from me and says 'really?? butter cream?? i hate butter cream.. why can't you get whipped' - so my response 'b/c I'm the bride' - that ended that convo..

Now was that wrong?? like i said - they are paying for this, but you left it up to me and FH to pick the cake - so if you wanted your own cake then you should have just picked it out.

This is kind of difficult to say.

But if your FIL's clearly stated that it was up to you and FH to pick out the cake, then you're not wrong at all.

If FFIL doesn't like it, then tell him to get his own cake! :)

agreed. If the decision was up to you and Fh than it's your decision, not his. You are not going to please everyone, just keep that in mind. Do what makes you happy.

agree with the other girls...and also just wanted to add, buttercream lasts forever, whipped cream gets a little weird when you leave it out, so whatever, you made the right decision anyway

LOL thanks - I didn't want to pull a bridezilla move but I just felt so attacked over cake toppings. I mean - really?? lol

He also went into the whole shoe thing - told me 'don't have the guys wear patten leather shoes - I hate those. I made sure all my guys didnt wear patten leather.'

UMM i happen to like that look lol where the heck is this stuff coming from?? lol
