Butterflies

ladies, what do you think about releasing butterflies at church after the mass? Have heard mixed reviews and need to make a decision soon. We can't do rose petals or anything that will make a mess on the ground...

TIA!

Re: Butterflies

Honestly, I have been to a wedding that had that and I personally would not do it. It was a beautiful idea, but when some were released they were very dis-oriented from being in the package that most fell on the floor and people were stepping all over them

What about bubbles?

I see that you are getting married in September. Please reconsider the butterfly release. Besides the fact that they need to stretch their wings out before they are just able to fly off, September is going to be late in the season for them to try to fly south. Pretty much you would be releasing them to die Maybe you can consider doves instead...they fly back to their home after release.

Absolutely, the limo company was going to throw in butterfly release for free but I turned them down for the same reason... I'm getting married in March and they will just die... we are doing bubbles instead...

I love butterflies, but I think it's kind of cruel.

My cousin did it for his wedding. It was a cute idea, but alot of the butterflies were disoriented or dead when they had to release them. It ended up being a disaster area!

We raised our own butterflies. It was much more cost effective and I really had fun doing it.

It went really well. I think I might have pics in my album.A September wedding would probably be a cut-off for me due to the weather. I really don't see a problem with it.

and FYI for all the `that's cruel comments' :
They only live for about two to three weeks.

I would rather live for 2-3 weeks than be in a box. Let's just stick our kids in a box even though they only live for 2-3 weeks-that's horrible. Why not let them live?

I'm not sure if I am misunderstanding you.....

They don't live in a box for 2-3 weeks, they live in a pavillion (it's a big cylinder made out of tulle and plastic). You need to put fresh flowers in every 1-2 days along with sticks and greenery. As food, you can put in fresh fruit. Mine loved oranges and strawberries (they didn't touch the bananas too much). I put in hydrangea in hopes they would be attracted to my bouquet, but they just flew away. Being in a pavillion, they aren't attacked by birds, or harmed in the elements of nature, like rain or frost (this is why September is cutting it close, a summer month is much better). They only have a life expectancy of 2-3 weeks in both nature or in the pavillion, so to me, the teaching and learning experience that I and my family had was better than anything! If you have any other questions, please feel free to FM me or look on the site where I ordered mine from www.insectlore.com
