Now I know many are sceptical on the whole butterfly release thing ... I would love to do it the only thing now is our ceremony time has been moved up to 6:30pm the sun will set at 7.05 ( looked it up) should I still do my butterfly release??? Will we even be able to see them?? is it worth it??

May be you should try dove releases. You would always see them day, or night b/c they're big enough

I wouldn't do the butterfly release. They are delicate creatures - so alot of them would die. In theory it is a nice idea, but in reality it is very very sad

How about a balloon release? I personally don't feel the butterfly or dove options are humane to those creatures.

We did a dove release, which was really nice. It is not inhumane in the least; the doves (I used Macy at White Wings NY) are trained to fly home and are treated perfectly! It was beautiful and symbolic for us and I'm glad we did it.
I think it is inhumane as well but that is JMHO. Do whatever is good for you and your FH.

This is NOT a good idea. The balloons pop and get caught on the beaks of birds so they cannot eat. Or they get ingested by animals and get lodged in their esophagus/stomach/intestines, thus resulting in the animal's death.

IMO, My friend did the butterfly release and I almost cried because I felt so bad. The butterflies were so disoriented from being in the box that when we opened them, some would just fall on the floor instead of flying and everyone was stepping on them.
I love the Dove release and think it looks beautiful

Re: butterfly release ??
The original poster did not ask opinions as to whether or not it was inhumane or whatever...she simply wanted to know if it's a good idea to do so w/the timing.
My response:
Considering the sun setting at 7:05...I would not do it b/c they're small and you might be able to see them.

I agree it might be to0 late for the butterfly. You arent going to see them. I am doing the dove release, or maybe you can light sparklers.
For the Dove Release company I am using the Doves are well taken care of and they have done celebrity funerals. FM me for details if you would like to consider doing this.

It's a win loose situation b/c a while back there was a thread about this, and the birds would choke b/c of trying to eat the balloons as they fall. So I guess whever your comfortable w/, and want to spend money on. We're doing dove releases so if you need any feed back FM me.

You're right, ChrissynRicky. Sorry, hsacks! I didn't mean to veer off topic...just trying to help w/the dove suggestion! I think it may be too late for butterflies and then there is the issue of some of them being dead. I have a friend who tried this and it didn't work out well. Good luck!
