Re: butterfly release?
I've been to a wedding when they did this, and many of the butterflies did not fly, they were not comletely dead, but they were on their last leg. This was just my experience with butterflies, but I would def do some research before investing. HTH

Butterflies scare me to death...and it's a lot more common of a phobia than you would think.
Imagine if I was a guest at your wedding, and butterflies started divebombing, I would be in hysterics and tear off screaming and running, if not hyperventilate and pass out. Just a thought...could put some guests in a really bad position.

Re: butterfly release?
my girlfriend did the butterfly thing a few years ago at her wedding (ok - it was more like 12 years ago but you get the point). It wasn't as easy as it sounds. They ship you unhatched butterflies. You have to turn them in the little boxes a few times a day. The day of her wedding, we were all picking through the boxes trying to see if we felt movement so only the alive ones would go to the church with us. The ones that weren't dead didn't fly very well.
Also, just so you know, they didn't photograph well. I don't know if it was her photog or the butterflies but in the pictures they just look like blobs messing up the picture.

Re: butterfly release?
you can only do this during certain times of the year because the temperature has to be above a certain degree--like at least 68 or something. some places ship the butterflies to you cold so they are in a 'deep sleep' and then you have to sort of thaw them out before you release them. if you touch a butterfly's wings you can damage it and then it won't be able to fly. be very gentle when handling them.

I've seen this before when I used to be a bridal attendant, I had to pack baskets with the butterfly card things, I was grossed out. You opened them and most of them were 'drugged out' and just landed on chairs.

I hate the idea of this Those poor butterflies.
ETA: JMO, not trying to offend. Maybe it's not as cruel as I think it is but I can't imagine butterflies are comfortable in transit.
