Butterfly Release?

Butterfly Release?

Has anyone done this or been to a wedding that did this? (i know adriana was thinking of doing this but I can´t find her post) If you used this site it would be great:

http://www.swallowtailfarms.com

Supposedly they are the most reputable site to use (per a comment I found from a wedding planner so who knows). They do individual releases. You can order as many as you like but you can even have each guest release one themselves.

I kinda like this idea because I love butterflies but I would be afraid of them dying in the shipment process. Per this website they guarantee this won´t happen. But I´d like info from someone who experienced this first hand. Anyone on here?

This is one i've seen too.

Oh, in re: to the post below, the butterfly's migrate around October or so down to Mexico. If your doing it in April it should be ok but i'd call one of the websites and ask about how releases work during that time of year since it still might be cold.

Personally, i wouldn't do the individual release b/c then i'd be scared they would get crushed. I would have them transported in the box and do several box releases. But my other concern is if it rains (like downpour) what do i do then? I obv can't release them at that time.

Re: Butterfly Release?

Dying during delivery isn't the only bad thing that can happen. Butterflies migrate during the winter and after being released often lose their way or don't migrate at all and die. Please read this before you decide on doing this:

I would recommend against this...I've heard of many of the butterflies dying in the envelopes...so by the time your guests open them they are dead or just barely alive...

...I really haven't heard anything good about it, now that I think about it...poor little butterflies

I think its pretty, but I too would be worried about them dying

Re: Butterfly Release?

The butterflies can die before they are released, they can lose their way, and they can upset the natural population of butterflies in the area and throw off the balance of things.

That's all I know about it. Sorry it's not good news

09er crashing. My friend did this at her wedding a couple of years ago. It looked really pretty in person, but it was a pain in the a$$ when they first shipped the butterflies because she had to keep 'turning them' or something. Then the day of the wedding, about half of them were dead in the packages. It was kind of sad.

Also, honestly, it didn't photograph all that well. The butterflies she had were pale yellow almost white and in the pictures, they look like little white blobs.

It was so beautiful in person, but I personally wouldn't do it.
