Buying a dog...Reputable places?

Are there any reputable places to buy a dog on Long Island? I know I should adopt but I can't find an young pugs for adoption. I want to give one as a gift so I want to make sure it is what he wants. Are all Pet stores terrible? For example, does anyone know anything about Pick of the Litter in Smithtown?

I would strongly recommend AGAINST buying a dog in a pet store. IN addition to all of the horrors, you are usually paying way more than you would a breeder.

Please consider checking out a breeder first.

ETA: I know it is hard to wait when you want a dog, but I cannot tell you how bad a pet store dog can be. They are more likely to have health problems, are not usually treated well in their infancy, and also may not be pure bred, even if there are 'papers' to prove they are.

Try a pug rescue. Please, adopt and save a life, you'll be glad you did...
