What are all you gals doing for a house before or after your wedding? Or will you be living in an apartment? FH and I have been spending the past month looking into purchase of a house. Over and Over again, we haven't found anything that really suits us. It is fustrating... We def know we don't want to go the apartment route. So now we have been looking into new consturction out East. Today we are meeting with a builder and I am so nervous. FH is not handy and clueless about this kind of stuff. The price is right, but I am afraid that after we start stating some specifics we want (wood floors, granite counters, jacuzzi tub, ect) the price is going to sky rocket. But I am hopefully and keeping my fingers crossed. Anyone here purchase a new home or having one built feel the same? OR even, anyone with experience in this area. Any suggestions of what we should be asking these builders.... Thanks, Wish us luck!

Re: Buying a Home
the rule of thumb is that you will spend 10% of the purchase price on the home on 'extras'. Susan purchased a new build. You definately end up with upgrades, regardless of what they tell you when you sign. Make sure you also do a BBB check on the builder! There are a lot of problems with some of them.

Re: Buying a Home
IMO i would buy the house without all the extras if it going to cst $$$ you have to think that you will beliving in this house for along time. I lived in a apt with my DH for 3 years before we got married .. we actually atarted looking for houses 4 months before our wedding and actually found one 2 days after we got home from our honeymoon. And it took us 2 years to do ANYTHING with the house.. rome was not built in a day and there is time for everything... you want to see what thgey are going to give you for the price that you are going to pay.. sometimes it can be cheaper if you wait and shop around for someone cheaper....
