My friend registered at Neiman Marcus. The tax and shipping on the item I want to buy increases the total by $34! So a $270 gift is now over $300.
As a bride, if a guest purchased an item that you registered for but it wasn't directly from your registry would you be annoyed? I found another website that has the same item but free shipping and no tax, and free gift wrap! I would much rather save my $34 and buy the gift from this other site. Thoughts? Would you be suspicious why I didn't purchase from Neiman Marcus? Would you care?
I had received a registered gift but not from where I registered for it, and while it was a pain to manually delete the item from the registry, I really didn't care. I know this person got married 3 months before me and probably had a lot of gift cards from Bloomies and so bought my china from Bloomies and not from Macy's, where I registered for it.

Re: Buying a wedding gift NOT from the registry...
If it is the same brand and everything but cheaper from somewhere else i would get it from the other place. I would respect that. She can always go back and take if off her registry herself. The only thing you risk is someone else getting it for her.

I would be very happy to receive a gift that I wanted even if it was not bought directly off the registry- Save your $34 and buy the gift online.

I think it is fine. Can you contact someone in her BP or her Mom to have the item deleted from her registry, so that she doesn't get duplicated?

I don't know about Neiman Marcus, but I've done what you're saying and called the registry store (done it for BBB & Macy's) and just said I forgot to tell the checkout person in the store that it was a registry item.. they asked for the name and/or registry number and marked it purchased for me.

I don't think anyone has the password to her registry except her so no one will be able to make changes.
I think I'll just order the gift from the other site and send along a gift receipt.

Even if she did get the same thing from someone else, she could always go back to the store and explain that there must have been a fluke and she received 2 of the same gift. Trust me it's no big deal at all!

ITA.....My sister did that for my baby shower. I registered at a couple places giving people options with prices and if it was purchased at one place then we took i off. I would def. contact someone and ask them to take it off.

Tell them to tell her that someone purchased it and she should take it off. She is probably stalking er registry anyway
