Buying wedding gown online?

Buying wedding gown online?

Hi! First time posting and hope I can ask for everyone's help...I just found a great dress in a bridal store that my mom and sis even loved but it was a little over my budget. Luckily the size they had me try on was perfect so it will just need a hem and bust adjustment. I found the dress online for a fourth of what it costs at the store, but not sure if it's worth it to buy it and then try to find someone to alter it...

To top it off, since my wedding's in October, I'll need to order the dress soon!

Has anyone faced a similar dilemma? Some of my friends have said to go the online route(which says they can deliver the dress in 2 months) and find a great seamstress for alterations...on the other hand, I just feel that the bridal store will take better care of the dress...so torn!

Any suggestions about one or the other? Does anyone know of a great seamstress that has altered a wedding dress and still came out great?

Thanks in advance!

Personally I think the online route may be more of a headache..did you try RK Bridal in the city? They seem to have the lowest prices (usually)

I would say try and find it in a store, you really don't want to risk having issues with ordering your dress online; I also suggest RK Bridal. But if you do, you should make sure the website is an authorized dealer of your dress designer.

Thanks so much, ladies! I'll definitely check out RK bridal. They're an authorized dealer for my designer and apparently only a few blocks from where I work in the city :)

i agree, try to find an authorized dealer... i was looking online for a dress that i tried on and when you start reading the reviews.. you'll realize that a lot of online vendors produce look-a-likes, not the actual dress from the designer, so beware.

I think buying it in person is the best route.

Well, it depends.

When you say online do you mean online knock off? Online Preowned sites? Online sites that sell wedding dresses cheaper because of their low overhead of no retail location?

Frankly, I'm fine with either! I just couldn't find my dress preowned online. Otherwise I would have def bought it preowned esp if it was 1/4 of the price!

Which site are you talking about?

My MOH bought her wedding dress online and she had no problems. With that being said, she is the perfect sample size and is 5'10', so everything looks good on her (I'm slightly jealous )

a good family friend bought her dress online and it arrived fine but fell apart DURING the reception- seams ripped, beading fell off, etc.
she also ordered her bridesmaids dresses (only 3) online and they came in very late so alterations had to be done very last minute, but they looked fine.
i ordered my veil online and fortunately i ordered it very early because they told me it would be be 4-6 weeks. 12 weeks later i finally got it. granted it was beautiful, but it caused alot of stress...
imo- id use a store.
good luck!
you can buy dresses off the rack in lots of places too- estelles in farmingdale and estelles too.

i would be very very wary buying anything online, unless it was an authorized dealer for the dress, or like a huge retailer like davids bridal where you could go to the store and exchange or return if necessary

I would be VERY careful buying something like that online because you may not know what to expect. It also depends on the site that you use as well so be cautious.
