Danielle and I have our computer with cable modem, Our living room tv with a cable box and our bedroom tv with cable all hooked up to one line that is coming from outside the house. We have a 3 way splitter running off the outside of the house...One going to the bedroom tv, one going to the living room tv and one going to the computer. Our problem is that sometimes our computer loses touch with the internet?
It started to happen right around the time I installed the splitter. I replaced the 2 way splitter that I had installed before with this 3 way....and both TV's work fine, with the exception of the bedroom tv not getting such great reception.
My question is...Is there anything we can do to keep the computer online? Or are we stuck with having the computer jump on and off line?
Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks, Scott

Re: Cablevision people....Have a question
I don't know how to help you, but I do know that when we split the cable in our apartment too many ways, it got very fuzzy, so maybe you are just splitting it too much at one point. Once we split the cable at another spot, the problem went away. But maybe that was just us.

Re: Cablevision people....Have a question
You can buy signal enhancers at Radioshack. (they have ones with splitters in them)
Also, instead of a 3 way splitter; buy 2-2 way splitters. Split main line to 1) computer and then 2) to next splitter.. then take next spitter to tv's.
That way its getting most of the signal. If you do that, and want to use your 3 way splitter, make sure you buy a terminator to stop the signal thru the unused split.
Playing around with either the enhancer or splitters should do something for you. Keep your Radioshack reciepts!!

Re: Cablevision people....Have a question
Sometimes they'll actually install an extra line coming into the house. I have Time Warner here and when i got the cale modem it didn't work so well, so they installed a seaparate line from the street for it and now it works great..sometimes there's just too much stuff going on on the line

Re: Cablevision people....Have a question
I got the splitter from morley electronics on line.
Explain how splitting the lines with two splitters will help out my problem. That just seems like that would cause more problems.
This Monster Standard 2 GHz Low-Loss RF Splitters - TGHZ-3RF, that buy.com sells...How is that going to help me? The cable company said the splitters needed to be at 3.5Db. Isnt that going to be too much for the lines?

Re: Cablevision people....Have a question
If you put the cable modem at the first split, it will get a stronger signal then if it is 3 splits down the line.
It's worked for me in the past - but I make no guarantees - it's cablevision!

I dont want to put it at the first split, because our tv is at the first split...Wouldnt that make our tv have bad reception then?

your tv should not noticeablly see any difference in picture... tv run at a diferent rate not dependent on this type of split (6.0db)
did you use to have a fine signal? somtimes (happens to me every once in a while) where i would go a week with signals droping overnight or somthing. it kinda fixes it self.
if this is a constant thing...contact the help desk and have them run a signal test to see how good your connection is... he may ask you to change it to the very first split to try it also....
buying a spliter is cheap and somtimes an effective way to fix a signal problem (if it is one) took me a level 3 tech to tell me to buy a spliter...presto it was working... but then another time...something happen to a box in my area and a guy had to come out... you never know

Thats expensive (imo) im not sure how singal stregtherns work with cable modems...i seen it in use for TV signals. but this product supports. 3.0db so i suppose it should work. I know its hard to strengthern internet packets. they can travel so far without losing any data. i would call and check... you should not have a weak signal after 1 split though.... if its weak, cable should be liable to drop u a new line. i doubt there is anything wrong on your end...
Is this a house or an apartment type building setup?
