How high is a good height for a cake? My baker is asking me how high I want mine and I have no idea. Anyone have any thoughts?

Re: Cake height
it kind of depends on how many guests you'll have and what look you're going for.

We're going to do a side sheet cake if we need to (I'm afraid of how big the cake will be if it has to feed our guest list), so it can be whatever size we want. I'm just trying to get an idea for what we want it to look like.

How many people do you have? We ended up with 4 tiers (it was for 170 but it could have feed 190).

Re: Cake height
for the wedding--if you go with a sheet cake like i think you wrote, maybe i'm misunderstanding, in order for it to be big enough to feed a large amount of guests its going to be so long and big. For my e-party I just went looking and my baker told me not to do a sheet cake for anything above 100 guests b/c it will look like a football field. He said do about three tiers which is about 2.5-3.5 feet tall. For a wedding three or four tiers is nice. I've seen anything from 2 feet tall up to about 5 feet... which is so stunning but average is somewhere in the middle. good luck :)

That's the thing, I thought it was a weird question, too, because I already said 3 tiers. I have no idea. I guess they can make the tiers a different height based on what we want. I emailed him asking him what a normal cake height is.

We're doing a 3 tiered caked, but instead of having a cake big enough to feed all of our guests, we are getting a smaller cake (whatever size we want) and then there will be a sheet cake in the kitchen and they will both be cut up and served. For some reason it's cheaper that way, but also it means that you can have lots of cake without having a crazy giant 20 tiered monster cake.
