So I baked a cake for Xmas. I followed the directions precisely, buttered the pan, etc. It was supposed to sit in the pan 5 minutes and then come out. I got a little distracted (gossipping with my mom ) and let it sit in the pan for about 20 minutes...
And now it won't come out!!!
It's definitely only sticking on the bottom, the sides are fine and have pulled away from the pan...
I'm a really good cook and a really good baker, but I've never had this happen before. Any ideas, please?

have you slid a knife around all sides? have you tried turning it upside down on a plat and gently banging the bottom? have you tried filling the sink with hot water and holding the bottom of the pan in the hot water?

I've tried everything except the hot water...I'll give that a shot.
I even wacked the bottom of the pan with a meat mallet, and that didn't work!

I think the water thing make work. If the reason is sticking is because you left it too long, then if it is wamred , it should be less sticky & release.

Or try w/ a spatula on the bottom, kinda like the knife.

The hot water trick worked like a charm...thank you all so much for your help and suggestions!
(Although now I am wishing a little bit that I had seen the 'eat the cake and make another one' option first! )

It's actually a mix. I usually bake from scratch, but I was pretty recently diagnosed with a wheat allergy (so no white flour for me!) which has been a pain. I was hoping to be able to figure out some substitution, but I didn't want to risk it for the holiday.
I have, however, been able to figure out how to make homemade pasta (from scratch) without white flour, so there will definitely be some manicotti for Xmas!
