So I was going to use a friend of the FH family. The cake will be $1600. for 150 people. Is that crazy? Has anyone gotten an upgraded cake form Erga? I think that's the bakery Westbury Manor uses. Thanks

hmmm depends, what kind of cake is it, Fondant, buttercream or something else? Its crazy how expensive fondant cakes are but theyre about $6-8 per slice average and even higher for more complicated designs

Re: Cake issues
From what I read, the cakes that the WM have in their cake portfolio are not so great, design wise. Some people dont care about the cake but I def do and if I dont like the cakes WM have then I will def upgrade at Erga's bakery and if I dont like the cakes there I will buy my cake from elsewhere. Have you seen the cakes that WM have?

Re: Cake issues
WOW thats a lot. THANK GOD our cake is included because the one we want is fondant and pretty modern with a lot of little pieces to attach...
I would try to get another quote. Does anyone know if the ButterCooky Bakery makes wedding cakes? They are located in Manhasset and Floral park and O M G!!! THE EBST italian baked good ever. My mom goes there for holidays and birthdays to pick up our cakes. Their whipped cream frosting is to die for. See if they could do it.

Re: Cake issues
I think they can charge you about $2.50 per person. Make sure the you RH will not charge you for slicing the cake, they can charge you up to $1.50 per slice.

For some reason i didnt see how many people you had...Well they charged you over $10 a slice...its a bit more than the average price for fondant cakes, like i said before average is $6-8...$10 a slice is normal too but you will usually see this at big city bakeries and if its a very complicated design...If you have regular square or round cake and the design doesnt seem that hard to do then they are charging you too much.
I think you should look at other bakeries, you will find it for less...If you go to a bakery in LI you will definitely find fondant cakes for $5-6 a slice, some also do charge $7...the cheapest i found it for in LI and i called alot of places was $4.50 a slice.
If you are getting buttercream though it has to be alot less than that but by the price you gave previously i am guessing its fondant.

Re: Cake issues
i upgraded my WM cake at ergas directly for $100 for fondant AND sugar flowers.
they can make whatever you want--just do it directly at the bakery and NOT at WM. WM wanted like $400 just for the fondant
$1600 is insane considering WM includes your cake and you can change whatever you want through ergas

Re: Cake issues
Watermill uses Erga too. We didn't get one of the cake options in the book. Buttercream & fondant were both included, but for chocolate ganache on the outside they charged us $100. Also we wanted a snowflake design and they charged us $50. So we wound up paying $150. $1600 sounds insane to me!

The Watermill uses Erga Bakery. My cake was an upgrade. It was all chocolate. And it was perfect. It came out exactly like the pic I gave them. And it delicious.....I received so many compliments from my guests. Check out my review for pics.

Re: Cake issues
I think $1,600 is a lot for a cake. If you go into the city, then I'm sure they'll charge something like that.
You should shop around a little bit to get a better idea of what the average price is of what you want.

So I made my decision. I'm going to go to Erga's and get their upgrade because I went to my jeweler today and ordered 2 bands for myself Hell I deserve it after all this planning. So I would much rather look down at my bling everyday than worry if people don't enjoy the cake.

That is crazy unless the cake is layered in gold!

As a baker's daughter, 1600 is crazy. However i have seen people go overboard. You may want to chat with your vender again.
